Ladies and gentlemen, gather 'round for a tale as rich as the Pinot Noir itself—a wine born from the rugged beauty of Oregon's Willamette Valley and the brilliance of King Estate Winery.
100% estate-grown, certified Biodynamic fruit—each vine treated like royalty, every cluster a tiny jewel in the crown. King Estate isn’t just a vineyard; it’s a thriving ecosystem where vineyards mingle with orchards, grasslands, and even the odd wandering elk or bear. It’s a place where compost gets a standing ovation and sustainability is less a buzzword and more a sacred vow.
And the terroir? Oh, darling, the terroir is chef’s kiss. King Estate’s rolling vineyards, kissed by misty mornings and caressed by the cool Willamette breeze, offer Pinot Noir grapes the perfect stage to shine. This is a wine with a sense of place so strong, it practically sends you a postcard with every pour.
Founded in 1991 by Ed King Jr. and his son Ed King III, this isn’t just a family business—it’s a legacy. Ed King Jr., a World War II Navy electronics designer and entrepreneur, instilled a love for innovation and adventure in his son. And Ed King III? He’s the visionary who turned a simple search for horse hay into one of the most iconic wineries in the Pacific Northwest. Armed with a law degree, an MBA, and an entrepreneurial spirit that doesn’t quit, Ed transformed a rugged cattle ranch into the 1,033-acre wine haven that King Estate is today. It stands tall as North America’s largest certified Biodynamic vineyard. That’s not just impressive—it’s legendary.
The 2022 Artisan Series Pinot Noir. Made from 100% estate-grown, Biodynamic grapes, this wine is a pure expression of the Willamette Valley’s magic.
Aging: 10 months in French oak barrels (27% new)
100% Pinot Noir. The nose has pleasing aromatics of plum, black currant, raspberry, violet, rose and orange rind with accents of coconut, hazelnut and toasty cedar. From the first sip, velvety dark fruit flavors emerge, showing plum, black currant and blueberry joined by notes of almond, mushroom and black pepper. Bright acidity carries this flavorful wine through to a complex and lingering finish
This is a new one for me from King Estate. I loved the perfume-like aromatics of blackcap raspberries, violets and warm candlewax. Nicely balanced, the Artisan's tingly acidity and firm tannins frame flavors like blackberry, caramel and saline. A creamy texture is merely a bonus. ~92 Wine Enthusiast
Sweet berries, tobacco leaves and oak spices on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied with a dense and creamy texture on the palate. Plenty of dark cherries and sweet tobacco notes and a crisp finish. Drink now. ~91 James Suckling
