Clos du Val, established in 1972 in Napa’s famed Stags Leap District, is a family-owned winery known for its dedication to Bordeaux-inspired blends. Winemaker Carmel Greenberg, originally from Israel, brings a passion for elegant, expressive wines. Her journey began in a French restaurant in Tel Aviv, igniting a love for wine that led her to UC Davis and ultimately to Napa, where she crafts wines with a touch of French inspiration and Napa character.

Clos Du Val, French for “small vineyard estate of a small valley,” was founded in 1972 in the renowned Stags Leap District. The winery was first recognized for its Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at the famed Judgment of Paris in 1976, establishing its place as one of Napa Valley’s most iconic winery estates.

The Cabernet from this estate upset the French Bordeaux competitors at the French Culinary Institute Tasting of 1986. Still family-owned today, Clos Du Val farms 350 acres of estate vineyards in the Stags Leap District, Carneros, and Yountville appellations and continues to craft wines of balance and complexity, showcasing the fruit from the outstanding terroir on which our estate lies.

The 2022 growing season in Napa was a journey. After a dry start and mild spring and summer, a late heatwave in September was followed by just enough rain to rejuvenate the vines, allowing them to reach full maturity by late October. The result? Wines with soft tannins, rich flavours, and elegant depth.

Aging: 12 months in 30% new French oak.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Enticing aromas of blackberry, plum, and raspberry leap from the glass with underlying notes of caramel, dark chocolate, and rose petal. Fresh and vibrant flavors of cherry, pomegranate, nutmeg, and vanilla are seamlessly integrated with bright acidity, polished tannins, and a long, velvety finish.

A wash of elegant liquid offers a whisper of sleek tannins guided by sweet earth, slate, purple plum, and black olive. Midpoint savory notes of fig, toasted cedar, and black tea meld with heather and blackberry on the well- structured and impeccably balanced palate. ~96 Tasting Panel Magazine

Fresh and nicely framed aromas of red currants, stone and sweet tobacco. Medium-bodied with open-grained tannins and a creamy finish. Crunchy fruit. A blend of 77% cabernet sauvignon, 12% merlot, 5% malbec, 4% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot. Very drinkable now, but can improve with age. ~92 James Suckling

A mix of black fruits spun through with stimulating and flavorful spices fill the mouth with juicy and savory flavors. These are carried by a balance of acidity and fine-grained tannins into a mouthwatering and lengthy finish. ~92 Wine Enthisiast
