"When Markus Molitor took over his father’s Weingut in 1984, there were just three hectares of vines, today he owns 120 hectares across the most storied Mosel and Saar sites. But Molitor not only heads of one of the largest Mosel estates, he also is one of the best. Few others work with such focus and dedication – if not to say obsession." ~Decanter

When Markus Molitor took over his family estate in the 1980s, he didn’t just inherit vines—he inherited a legacy. As the eighth generation of his family to helm the winery, Markus set out with a bold mission: to restore the Mosel Riesling to its rightful golden age.

From the breathtaking slopes of the Ürziger Würzgarten vineyard comes a Riesling that is as complex and captivating as the land it hails from. The 2021 Markus Molitor Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Kabinett is a wine that tells the story of volcanic soils, meticulous craftsmanship, and a legacy of excellence in every sip.

Markus Molitor, known for his uncompromising approach to winemaking, has once again demonstrated his mastery with this bottling. The vineyard, whose name translates to "spice garden," is a geological marvel. Its south- to southeast-facing slopes are composed of weathered volcanic rhyolite and stone-rich soils, creating a unique terroir that imparts an unmistakable piquancy and elegance to the wine. These are wines that captivate with their fine acid interplay, crystalline clarity, and ripe, layered fruit.

100% Riesling.

On the nose, this Kabinett unveils a bouquet that is as intense as it is inviting, combining flinty minerality with herbaceous notes and warm, ripe fruit aromas. Take a sip, and the wine reveals a razor-sharp precision, a hallmark of the Würzgarten terroir. Full-bodied and round, it balances richness with a crystalline acidity, while the finish is dense, layered, and utterly promising.

Flinty, reductive funk covers up the nose of the 2021 Riesling Ürziger Würzgarten Kabinett Gold Capsule, but the palate comes in with a sweetness combining Granny Smith apple crunch with barley sugar and chervil crushed with salt. The freshness of 2021 cuts through and delivers phenomenal lemon length. Total verve. (Sweet) ~94 Vinous Media

The 2021 Riesling Ürziger Würzgarten Kabinett (Golden Capsule) is clear and very delicate on the saline and flinty nose. On the palate, this is a lush and round, almost creamy-textured Kabinett with fine and crystalline acidity and a savory-pure and refreshing grippy finish. It's almost dry in taste due to the low pH of the 2021 vintage and the pure red slate terroir of Molitor's Würzgarten. This is a complex Kabinett with a very long and mouth-watering finish. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted from AP 062 22 at the domaine in May 2023. ~93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Explosively youthful nose with stacks of spring blossom and wild herb aromas plus a pronounced wet stone character, wrapped around the sleek and steely core of this expressive light-bodied dry Mosel riesling. They give it remarkable drive and length for just 10.5% alcohol. I love the smoky aftertaste. Drink or hold. ~ 93 James Suckling

Inviting and high-toned, this starts with lacy floral and sweet alpine herb notes that reveal white peach and mineral energy on the off-dry palate. Round and fruit-driven, with smoky root vegetable bass notes and plenty of river stone minerality. Impressive purity defines the herb-edged, firmed-up finish. Drink now through 2035. 1,250 cases made, 50 cases imported. ~90 Wine Spectator
