2021 Dolum Estates Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Besides sourcing grapes from some of the iconic regions in Napa Valley. Dolum has its own single vineyard that produces wine from low-yielding 40+-year-old vines on an Oakville crossroad on the eastern side of the AV. The vineyard is placed in a beautiful terroir with sandy loam soil over superb deep red clay and limestone, providing ideal conditions for Cabernet to thrive.

2021 was a fabulous year for Napa Valley. Vinous Media awarded this year a 95-98-point score saying that "Two thousand twenty-one is a fabulous vintage in Napa Valley. That’s the good news. The not so good news is that production is down sharply, 30-50% in many cases." 

Aging: 16 months in 100% French Oak (70% new)

98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot. Lush and fleshy, with cassis, boysenberry, and blackberry notes guided by hints of alder and mesquite. Stays open but defined through the finish, with a buried hint of sweet tobacco. A rich, layered beast, this has a nose rife with currants, blackberries, vanilla, and light toast with flavors of mocha, plum, and Bing cherry that mingle harmoniously on the tongue.

Ripe black fruits, sappy herbs, charcoal, and some spicy oak emerge from the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, a medium to full-bodied, ripe, layered, beautifully textured 2021 that has remarkable purity as well as ripe tannins. A blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot brought up in 70% new barrels, it's a smoking good bottle of wine to enjoy over the coming decade. ~93 Jeb Dunnuck

A medium- to full-bodied red with aromas of dark plums, dark cherries, currants and sweet spices on the nose. Fine tannins with a velvety core of berries and spices on the creamy mid-palate. Lively and harmonious with a focused finish. Better from 2026. ~93 James Suckling
