About the Wine
The Victor Fagon is an exclusive US-only label from Domaine Bertrand Ambroise. Known for producing some of the most concentrated and bold expressions of Pinot Noir in Burgundy, these wines have earned a reputation for their exceptional quality since the early 1990s.
The wine comes from the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits region, located to the west of the Côte de Nuits, and is known for its slightly cooler climate compared to the more famous Côte de Nuits vineyards. This allows for wines with vibrant acidity, bright fruit, and elegance, while still maintaining the depth and complexity Burgundy reds are known for. The region is home to high-quality vineyards that produce wines with a balance of freshness and structure.
Domaine Bertrand Ambroise has a long-standing legacy, with the estate dating back to the late 18th century. Bertrand Ambroise took control of the estate in 1988 after the passing of his father-in-law. Today, Bertrand’s son, François, manages the vineyards alongside him, while his daughter, Ludivine, oversees the commercial side of the business, enabling Bertrand to focus on winemaking. The winery uses low yields and long, slow fermentations, sometimes lasting 3+ weeks, to extract more color and flavor, and all cuvées are 100% destemmed.
The name “Victor Fagon” honors François’ son, “Victor,” and Guy-Crescent Fagon, a doctor to Louis XIV and a key benefactor to the wines of the Nuits-Saint-Georges region. The Domaine spans 21 hectares across 20 appellations, located in Premeaux-Prissey, on the southern edge of Nuits-Saint-Georges, and has been certified organic since 2013.
2019 was an outstanding year for Burgundy. This vintage was blessed with a 98-point review by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
Tasting Notes
100% Pinot Noir. This elegant red offers aromas of ripe cherry, raspberry, and cranberry, with subtle earthy and floral notes. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with soft tannins and bright acidity. Flavors of fresh red fruit are balanced with a touch of spice, leading to a long, smooth finish with hints of oak.
