Beaujolais is one of the best value-driven wine regions in the world! Located just south of Burgundy, Beaujolais produces fantastic fruit-driven wines that are unpretentious. This wine comes from Morgon, from a single vineyard called "Les Charmes."Out of the 7 Crus that makeup Beaujolais, Morgon is known as one of the highest-quality regions and it is known to produce the most ageable Beaujolais wines. Wines from this vineyard can sell for over $75 and are the most sought-after wines from Beaujolais.

The 2019 Morgon 'La Trad' is pure deliciousness in a glass!

Take a sip, and this wine wraps you in elegant fruit flavors, but it’s not just about the fruit—it’s got depth! Silky, juicy, and with a refined texture, this medium-bodied red delivers a perfect balance of freshness and richness, thanks to the cool minerality from the vineyard’s granite soils. And that finish? Long, fresh, and loaded with flavour, leaving you wanting another sip.

What makes this wine special? It’s crafted from old vines in the Les Charmes vineyard, one of the best spots in Morgon. Handpicked grapes go through a semi-carbonic maceration (the classic Beaujolais way), and then the wine spends nearly two years in new oak barrels. This method keeps it traditional while giving the wine its rich, layered character.

Owned by Patrice du Jeu since 2017, who also owns the renowned Burgundy estate Les Héritiers Saint-Genys, this vineyard produces wines from 50-year-old vines planted on sandy, granite-rich soils.

Patrice du Jeu wasn’t always in the wine game—he started as a Paris restaurateur with a love for Burgundy wines. Teaming up with expert winemaker Jean-Baptiste Alinc, they’ve brought new life to the Domaine de Lathevalle, using the amazing Les Charmes vineyard to create this incredible Morgon. Their philosophy? Respect the soil, love the vines, and make wine that speaks of its place.

This Morgon is a dinner table hero! Pair it with anything from roasted lamb, grilled meats, or even a charcuterie board. It’s also fantastic with hard cheeses or dishes with a touch of spice. Easy to match, and a joy to drink.

100% Gamay. A deep ruby hue sets the stage for an inviting nose of ripe red fruits, like raspberry and blackberry, beautifully accented by a touch of vanilla and a subtle hint of spice. On the palate, it’s rich and full of flavour, with layers of vanilla and lush red fruit making for an indulgent and intense tasting experience.

What an amazing nose this Morgon has, with deep blackcurrant fruit and touches of fresh mint, licorice and roasted meat! As stunningly elegant as it is concentrated on the super-precise medium-bodied palate. Very long and refined finish with a ton of cool minerality. Matured for almost two years in oak casks and only given coarse filtration at bottling. ~96 James Suckling

Places classified as Cru du Beaujolais, notably Morgon, have long since become alternatives with more affordable prices compared to the increasingly expensive wines of neighboring Burgundy.. Many fans of these vintages have noticed this, as have winegrowers like Patrice du Jeu, whose estate is actually in the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation. But the latter was able to buy Domaine de Lathevalle in 2017, because he himself is a big fan of complex and pleasant to taste Crus du Beaujolais. We can feel this fascination in his wines, which have a large community of admirers. An absolutely classic red wine, fleshy and powerful, made from old vines from the Cru level plot called Les Charmes. ~95 Wine in Black
