About the Wine

Zuccardi Aluvional is a selection of the best soils of alluvial origin in the Uco Valley, Mendoza. This remarkable wine beautifully captures the distinctive qualities and essence of each region, showcasing Argentina's signature grape, Malbec.

"Aluvional is our quest to express the particular identity of different places in the Uco Valley. What makes our places different but at the same time have common characteristics? The Andes Mountains, an inexhaustible source of wealth and diversity." ~Sebastian ZUccardi

This wine comes from Finca Piedra Infinita located in the Paraje de Altamira in La Consulta, where the Zuccardi family is a pioneer; they arrived when there were no other vines planted. Little by little, they have shown through their wines the greatness of Altamira’s terroir. Sebastian Zuccardi says: “We got there by intuition, driven by the landscape. Cultivating this vineyard implies studying, working, knowing each row, each stone. Exploring its enormous diversity to be able to interpret it through wine. An authentic mountain wine.”

The Zuccardi name has a well-deserved reputation in the wine world. This family is not only responsible for producing some of the best Argentinian wines, but they also have the best wine tourism experience in the entire world: For the third consecutive year, Zuccardi Valle de Uco has been named "The Best Vineyard in the World" by the recognized magazine and digital media company, William Reed Business Medi.

This family business founded by engineer Alberto Zuccardi in 1963, has 6 different estates strategically placed in some of the best wine-growing areas of Mendoza. Today, it is directed by Sebastián Zuccardi, Alberto's grandson.

Sebastián is a visionary and innovative agronomist and winemaker who has made great strides and improvements since he took over the winery. Among other important achievements, he started and promoted a department of research and development that studies the terroir of the region, in order to better understand the land and improve the quality of their wines. Sebastian says: "We don’t look for perfect wines, but those that express the place, the region”.

The winery was built in 2013 and is a tribute to the majestic Andes mountains that surround it. Zuccardi Wines is sustainable in all aspects, from the vineyard to the cellar and even the architecture, where the construction is made with natural elements from the area. The wines are vinified in basins and amphoras allowing a more natural result and with the least possible human intervention.

Tasting Notes: 100% Malbec.

Reviews

The intense and high-pitched 2018 Aluvional Gualtallary has finesse, which is the challenge in this very wild zone of the Valle de Uco. This is a powerful zone because of the light and the cold nights, which make it difficult to achieve elegance in the wines, but they have worked in this direction. As with other 2018s, the aromas and flavors are fully developed, so there's more complexity, nuance and depth than in the 2017s, which ripened faster and earlier. A superb mineral Gualtallary with contained ripeness and wildness. 8,000 bottles were filled in August 2019. ~98 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Blueberries, blackberries, violets and some stones on the nose. Orange peel, as well. It’s full-bodied with firm, silky tannins and a linear, refined finish. So gorgeous and long now, but better after 2023. ~96 James Suckling

~96 Tim Atkin, Master of Wine

Inviting aromatics of floral violet, plum and spice lead on to a plush palate of pure dark fruit, clove, mineral and elegant velvet tannins. ~95 Decanter

Plum, licorice, peppercorn and a hint of salt show in the bouquet of this balanced wine. It's full bodied, with well-integrated tannins. The vibrant palate delivers bright black-fruit flavors and peppery spice. It finishes long with leather notes. ~93 Wine Enthusiast

Exotic spice and cedar notes accent the taut, powerful flavors of red currant and dried raspberry that feature muscular tannins and acidity, with dried berry and sanguine accents on the savory finish. Drink now through 2026. 1,500 cases made, 150 cases imported. ~92 Wine Spectator
