Cornarea takes its name from the hill in the center of Roero where Francesca Rapetti and her husband Gianpiero Bovone carry on their unrelenting pursuit of excellence. The Rapetti family was instrumental in gaining recognition for Arneis. The grape and the area combine in one of those special confluences designed to express perfection. Cornerea Roero Arneis sets the standard for this wine and the family continues its tradition of excellence to this day.
In the mid-70s, Piero Bovone and Francesca Rapetti first planted an ancient white autochthonous grape of the Roero area that had almost disappeared. Arneis was recovered form only a few rows that still existed between the Nebbiolo and Barbera vineyards. Within a few years, this very special wine gained recognition, first in Italy and then abroad.Thereafter many Roero producers have followed the Cornarea example. Together, Piero and Francesca are solely responsible for the resurrection of arguably Piedmont's greatest white variety!
Fun fact: The word Arneis means "naughty boy" in the local Piedmontese, due to the difficulty of growing the varietal and producing quality wine in the past.
Tasting Notes: 100% Arneis. An extremely elegant wine, its color, with its slight suggestion of straw-yellow, forebodes a very peculiar scent of wildflowers and fruits such as pears, pineapples, passion-fruits. The same sensations recur in the mouth, magnified by a long-lasting, full and harmonious taste. This wine has great potential for aging. To truly appreciate this stunning and historically important varietal, you must try this wine; the hallmark and original home of the variety.
