Perfectly placed between La Lagune and Château Giscours Chateau Bellegrave's original vineyard dates back to 1881 but was utterly destroyed by hail in 1956. For two decades it sat unloved, yet growing. In the 1970s the Roy family began its reconstruction. Brought back to life and thriving, it was sold to their neighbor Mr. Cantelaube in 1999.

Jean Pierre Cantelaube is now in his 70s and still gives so much care to his beautiful vines. Sitting on almost 10 acres, this charming little vineyard is closely tended to by hand and in full respect of the environment. Devoted and passionate, Mr. Cantelaube marries traditional winemaking techniques with modern technology. Featuring state-of-the-art equipment, an incredible barrel cellar, and temperature-controlled tanks, this chateau has everything its more renowned neighbors do, yet sells at half the cost, just to give you an idea, the same 2016 vintage of La Lagune sells for up to $130/bottle, and the 2016 Château Giscours can be found for up to $70/bottle... talk about amazing value!

This Château is in turn granted the distinction of “Cru Bourgeois” meaning that it is of the same high quality as the finer, aristocratic wines from the 1855 Classification, but without the pedigree.

On top o all, this wine comes from an exceptional year for Haut-Medoc. Vinous awarded the 2016 vintage 98 points, heralding the wines as “absolutely harmonious”. This excellence of quality is obvious in the 2016 Chateau Bellegrave Du Poujeau. An elegant and rich Cru Bourgeois. This wine is everything you'd expect from a Haut Medoc, but better.Characterized for its elegant taste, long finish, and extraordinary aging potential, the Chateau Bellegrave is an ode to its terroir.

Aging: 12 months in French oak barrels.

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. A slowly expressive nose, notes of dark fruits, coffee, and spices open up with elegance. Strong, firm tannins lead to a long, smoky finish. This pairs beautifully with foie gras, duck breast, and strong cheeses.

This vineyard in the southern part of the Médoc is so close to Bordeaux city that only a small part has been saved from buildings. The wine is worth the effort, rich with fine tannins and wood-aging flavors that sustain the ripe blackberry fruits and smoky character. The wine should age well, ready to drink from 2022. ~90 Wine Enthusiast.
