Bob Lindquist is a pioneer in Santa Barbara winemaking. He planted some of the first cool climate Syrah in California at the Bien Nacido vineyard in 1997. He became known as one of founding Rhone Rangers, demonstrating that Rhone varietals could succeed in California.
Lindquist Family Wines focus on quality, character, and balance. Since 1982, Bob Lindquist has specialized in Rhône-style wines from Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Maria, that is farmed sustainable, the Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard in the Edna Valley, farmed biodynamically, and the Ibarra-Young Vineyard in Los Olivos, farmed organically. His exacting standards and never-resting-on-laurels attitude, creates wines that are continually cutting edge, and a benchmark other wineries aspire to be. On occasion Qupé library wines may be included in club shipments.
Tasting notes: This Pinot has a savory flavor profile with tart cherries and notes of tea, spice and Autumn leaves. It has good balance, elegance and lasting flavors on the finish.
The 2015 Pinot Noir Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard is lovely, wafting from the glass with a complex bouquet of red berries, subtle tobacco leaf, cocoa, spice and sweet soil that reveals more and more nuance with aeration. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, supple and sappy, with fine-grained tannins on the finish and good concentration. One gets the sense that bottle age will be rewarded. This struck me as California's answer to a Volnay from Domaine Lafarge. ~92RP
The 2015 Pinot Noir Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard is gorgeous. Aromatic and gracious, the 2015 is built on a core of expressive aromatics, lilting red berry fruit and mid-weight structure. The 50% whole clusters come through nicely without overpowering the wine. Bright, saline notes frame the nuanced, highly expressive finish. ~91AG
