Chateau Pontet-Caillou is a small little know estate in Pessac-Leognan that shares a namesake with the prestigious Chateau Pontet-Canet. The dominate Gravel based soils here are perfect for the production of Cabernet Sauvignon. Many of the top Chateaus in Bordeaux are based in this appellation; Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut-Brion, Laville Haut-Brion, and Pape-Cement. Pessac-Leognan lies just outside of the city limits of Bordeaux and is one of the most historic appellations on the left bank.
2012 was an above-average vintage in Pessac-Leognan, earning 91 points from the acclaimed wine critic, Robert Parker. The 2012 Pontet-Caillou goes above and beyond in this modest vintage and delivers a wine that's complex and full of character.
We taste thousands of wines every year. And, every year, we return to Bordeaux for some of the best value wines anywhere in the world. Don't miss this classic Pessac.
Tasting Notes: Red Wine. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, and 8% Petit Verdot. The 2012 Pontet-Caillou showcases aromas of black currant, black cherry, fresh plum, black tea, tobacco leaf, and leather.
