93 Point Pomerol : 2015 Chateau La Creation Pomerol

Think of the most exclusive, renowned, and expensive wines in the world. – I'm sure Petrus is one of the names that popped into your mind, isn't it?

Petrus is magic, is grandeur, is exceptional quality, and it’s also a price tag that can go from $2,000 to $6,000 (or more depending on the vintage).

You see, one of the things that make Petrus, Petrus, is its breathtaking and unique terroir. And, it’s price. The soil is a mix of compact, clay-like, sandy gravel, with an underlying layer of iron-rich clay called "crasse de fer," which is Pomerol's special hallmark.

Today’s offer, the 2015 Château La Création Pomerol is located in the epicenter of Pomerol's most magnificent wines. You name it: Le Pin, L'Evangile, Figeac, and a stone's throw – only 2 miles – from the renowned Petrus. What's the scoop? Both Petrus and La Création enjoy a comparable extraordinary terroir, delivering top-notch quality. But their prices… not too similar.

The Gaye family—well-known for their Châteaux Grand Corbin Manuel in Saint Emilion Grand Cru—purchased the property (formerly known as Tour Robert) in 2012. It’s a beautiful 11-acre estate, the dedicated team tends to even the tiniest details, to secure the highest quality. They hand-pick the grapes and sort them twice. The first sorting happens in the vineyards, and the next happens at the winery, ensuring each grape that goes into the wine is perfect. The cellar is equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Together, the traditional method of harvesting by hand and the modern upgrades to the cellar result in an elegant, classic, superior Pomerol.

Now let's talk about the vintage, because the 2015 year was one for the books. Vinous Media blessed this year with 97 points, stating that "Bordeaux enjoyed its strongest vintage in a number of years. They are spectacularly rich, racy wines loaded with personality. The best 2015s on the Right Bank are superb."

The 93-point 2015 Château La Création is superb indeed. A stunning blend of 61% Merlot, 33 % Cabernet Franc, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, where you’ll be immediately captivated by its attractive and aromatic nose of red cherry and blackcurrant. Extremely balanced on the palate with a long and lively finish.
