Forthose that don't know, Barolo is “The King of Italy,” and is the most famous DOCG in all the country. Barolo is much more than just a highly esteemed DOCG. Barolo is an amazing, powerful, age-worthy wine that comes from one of the most prestigious, blessed (and beautiful) terroirs in the world.
Well, if Barolo is “The King of Italy”, then 2016 Schiavenza Serralunga Barolo is the crown.
I tasted this wine a couple of weeks ago, and to be honest, I was astonished by the complex flavor profile. I even played a little game, where I had to guess the price after. A lot of things were running through my head: “It’s a Barolo, the taste is impeccable, it’s coming from one of the best vintages in Piedmont, and so on”, so my first guess was more than $80 a bottle.
You can imagine how fast my jaw hit the floor when I found out that this stunner was only half that price! Now it's available to you for under $40 a bottle.
But it’s not just me who loves the 2016 Schiavenza Serralunga Barolo. The critics from the world agree. It was described as “Vibrant and velvety” by Wine Spectator while Robert Parker said that “it puts a lot of intensity and beauty right up there for us to admire.” Along with Vinous Media assuring that “It is one of its favorite wines in the range.”
Schiavenza is located in the magical region of Serralunga d'Alba, in the Barolo. The winery, which began with the brothers Vittorio and Ugo, is currently managed by Luciano Pira. Luciano and Nebbiolo are like synonyms, this brilliant agronomist has been producing some of the most outstanding Barolos in this region.
This is an exceptional wine. It is balanced, fruity but smooth, deep, and long. If you truly want to experience the magic of a beautiful Barolo (that is ready to drink today) this is for you!
