Go make room in your cellar. Now! No… wait. Purchase this Cult Napa Cab first, and then go make room in your cellar, because a few minutes might make all the difference in securing this must-have Rutherford California Cabernet Sauvignon. Grown in the volcanic, gravelly, sandy, loamy soil that nurtures Cabernet like almost nowhere else in the world, certainly like nowhere else in the U.S.
The 2017 Sloan Proprietary Red Rutherford, a highly allocated, cult Napa Cab. We have a precious few bottles of this greatly sought-after wine to share with you. Truth be told, the BHW team is tempted to hoard these coveted bottles for ourselves, but that would be selfish and against who we are. Our goal is to bring wine lovers joy, and we are confident that this wine will bring Napa Cab aficionados and collectors exceeding joy.
Stuart Sloan planted the winery’s 13 acres of vines, that from the eastern hills of Rutherfordoverlook the Napa Valley floor at elevations ranging from 875 to 990 feet above sea level, in 1997. His predecessor Sutong Pan (who also owns Château Bon Pasteur in Pomerol) and his daughter Jenny Pan purchased the estate in 2011. Knowing not to fix something that wasn’t broken, they kept Sloan’s stellar winemaking team who were already carefully producingexcellent wines vintage after vintage.
The 2017 Sloan Proprietary Red is a Cabernet Sauvignon heavy wine blended with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. A couple of vintages of this wine have achieved the highest critical acclaim with praise such as, “a perfect wine” while being bestowed with 100 points. The 2017 is itself truly exceptional, with 98 points, and may be the wine of the vintage! It has a gorgeous tension between elements of grace and power, balance and opulence, as well as age and vibrancy. It is a precise wine with defined structure andimmense aging potential and at the same time, a seductive wine of exceptional fruit finesse, minerality, and multilayered mouthfeel.
This is a collector’s item and it’s truly limited, but we have a few bottles we will share. Save $250/btl equal to 28% (don't ask us how!) and at one of the lowest prices found in the U.S.
We’re not weathermen, but our prediction is this will be gone in the blink of an eye.
Tasting notes: Voluptuous with cassis, blueberries, blackberries, earth, spice, and tobacco leaf on the nose. Full-bodied and rich with flavors of concentrated black fruits and spice. Elegant with well-integrated tannins that will continue to evolve for 20+ years.
"Wonderful aromas of blueberries, blackberries, mushrooms, pine, and blackcurrants. Some violets, too. Full-bodied, yet sorefined and polished with wonderful fruit and a linear tannin structure that integrates beautifully into the wine. It’s sobalanced and beautiful. Hard not to drink now, but better after 2023." ~98 Points, James Suckling.
"The 2017 Proprietary Red brings everything up a solid notch. Dense purple/plum-hued, with a gorgeous, Graves-like nose of blackcurrants, chocolate, scorched earth, tobacco leaf, and gravelly earth, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, apolished, elegant texture, building yet sweet tannins, and a great finish. Very much in the style of the 2017 vintage with its nicely concentrated, elegant, reserved yet endearing style, it's going todrink nicely for 20-25 years." ~97 Points, Jeb Dunnuck.
"The deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Proprietary Red sails out of the glass with open-knit, compelling scents of Black Forest cake, blackberry pie, and black currant jelly with suggestions of Indian spices, garrigue, rose oil, and sandalwood. The full-bodied palate is richly fruited and jam-packed with opulent black fruit preserves and exotic spice layers, framed by a wicked backbone of freshness and plush, well-managed tannins, finishing withimpressive length and perfume." ~96+ Points, Robert Parker.
