When we have the opportunity to offer a 2016 Brunello, we jump on it. 2016 is considered by many experts and Brunello lovers to be the best vintage ever in Montalcino. Wine Spectator declared it a 99 point vintage and a “textbook growing season.” We just can’t get enough of these showstoppers, and we can’t stop seeking the best of them out to bring to you.
The 2016 Scopone Brunello Di Montalcino DOCG is one of the best of them. Decanter and WineCritics.com give it 94 points and rave reviews. Decanter is particularly impressed with its “savory earthiness and leather notes.”
When it comes to deciding whether or not to buy wines from the vintage, James Suckling makes the decision easy for you when he says, "If you ever wanted a Brunello for your cellar, buy the 2016 vintage." Vinous Media called the 2016 Brunellos "well-muscled black stallions in their prime."
This wine is a stellar example of what the critics are raving about. WineCritics.com says it’s “muscular and rich” (one of those stallions Vinous is talking about) and “exceptional, it confirms the greatness of an extraordinary vintage at Montalcino.
The estate—an old farmhouse with 40 hectares of land—was bought by the Genazzani family in 1992. Well-respected Italian oenologist Giacomo Tachis saw the potential of the terroir and advised the family to make Brunello. They took his expert advice, rejuvenated the property’s vineyards, built a new cellar, and released their first vintage in 1997.
Because the winery is a newer one, at least by Italian standards, it is the perfect combination of modernity and tradition. The result is a Brunello with a classic and distinctive character born of hundreds of years of regional tradition that’s elevated to excellence by state-of-the-art technology and modern winemaking.
Recently, the Minari family took over Scopone. They’re continuing the tradition and dedication to the vines that create this harmonious Brunello that’s ready to drink now, but will also keep in the cellar for years to come.
BHW directly imports this wine so we can offer it to you at an excellent price. It’s over 42% off and under $47, making it one of the best values in 2016 Brunellos you can get your hands on. And you will want to get your hands on this exceptional Brunello.
