About the Wine
Syrah is the unsung hero of Santa Ynez. Voluptuous and fruity, even downright racy, this intriguing grape makes inky-red wines that are bold like Cabernet, but more complex and expressive. Martellotto’s epic 2016 vintage comes on strong with blackberry and ripe plum flavors before opening up to reveal notes of dried violet, white pepper, cocoa, and fresh sage. Winemaker, Greg Martellotto, sourced the grapes from 40-year-old Zaca Mesa vineyard, the oldest Syrah vines in Santa Barbara County and widely considered the birthplace of the ‘Rhone Rangers’ in California’s Central Coast.
If you’re a love fruit-forward and bold wines you’ll fall head over heels for Martellotto’s Syrah 2016, which delivers exuberant flavors without the hefty price tag. This gem of a cool climate Syrah will more than earn its place in your heart and collection.
Aged for 18 month in 30% new oak, the punchy flavors of Martellotto’s 2016 fruit-forward Syrah are balanced with vanilla and toasted oak to ensure an opulent finish.
No shrinking violet, this vintage loves to be paired with big flavors and spice.
Enjoy it with ribeye steak, roast lamb, smoked brisket, ox cheek stew with chili, grilled eggplant, and strong hard cheeses like cheddar, or a sweet and mellow blue cheese. Perfect as we head into the cooler months!
