Sieur d’Arques is one of the most historic and influential producers in Limoux, a region in southern France known as the birthplace of sparkling wine. Founded in 1946, the winery represents over 200 passionate winegrowers dedicated to producing high-quality wines that showcase the region’s unique terroir. Limoux’s winemaking history dates back to 1531, when Benedictine monks at the Abbey of Saint-Hilaire crafted the first recorded sparkling wine—long before Champagne. Sieur d’Arques continues this tradition, blending centuries-old expertise with modern innovation to produce elegant and refined Crémants.
The Grande Cuvée 1531 Rosé Brut NV pays homage to this historic winemaking legacy, sourced from carefully selected vineyard sites in Limoux’s cool-climate terroir. The region’s combination of Atlantic and Mediterranean influences allows for slow grape ripening, ensuring freshness, vibrant acidity, and a well-structured palate. The vineyards benefit from limestone-rich soils, which contribute to the wine’s characteristic minerality and finesse.
Crafted from a harmonious blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Pinot Noir, this Crémant is made using the traditional method, undergoing a second fermentation in the bottle and aging for 12 months on the lees. The result is a delicate, fresh, and expressive sparkling rosé, offering aromas of white flowers, peaches, and subtle sweet cherries. The elegant structure and fine mousse lead to flavors of strawberries, red currants, and a creamy, lingering finish. A Gold Medal winner at the Mundus Vini Spring Tasting 2021, this wine is a testament to Sieur d’Arques’ commitment to quality and the enduring excellence of Crémant de Limoux.
