Beaujolais is one of the best value-driven wine regions in the world! Located just south of Burgundy, Beaujolais produces fantastic fruit-driven wines that are unpretentious.

Domaine Laurent Martray has been producing wines in the Beaujolais region for generations, with Laurent Martray taking the helm in 1987. As a leading producer in Brouilly, Martray is known for his dedication to terroir-driven winemaking and his meticulous vineyard practices. His Côte de Brouilly Les Feuillées comes from one of the most esteemed vineyards in the appellation, planted in 1916 on the steep, rocky slopes of Mont Brouilly.

Côte de Brouilly is one of the 10 cru appellations of Beaujolais, known for producing concentrated and elegant wines from the Gamay grape. The appellation covers the slopes of Mont Brouilly, a dormant volcano that gives the vineyards their distinctive blue diorite and granite soils. These well-drained, nutrient-poor soils reduce vine vigor, resulting in grapes with excellent concentration and complexity. The vineyards are planted on steep, south- and east-facing slopes, benefiting from early morning sunlight and protection from strong winds, allowing for optimal ripening conditions.

Grown at elevations ranging from 250 to 350 meters, the Gamay vines thrive in these challenging conditions, producing wines with depth, elegance, and a true sense of place. Martray’s traditional approach includes hand harvesting, long macerations, and aging in oak barrels or casks for 10-12 months, with bottling done without filtration.

Aging: 10-12 months in oak barrels or casks

100% Gamay. This Côte de Brouilly reveals a refined structure with delicate tannins and a vibrant acidity that highlights its mineral-driven character. Aromas of small black fruits, subtle pepper, and floral notes intertwine with a hint of earthiness. The palate is fresh yet concentrated, offering a balance of elegance and power, with a long, lingering finish.

The 2022 Côte de Brouilly Les Feuillées, aged in foudres, evokes aromas of black cherries, licorice, violets, brown spices and vine smoke. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with a layer of sappy cherry that coats the mouth, pleasantly invigorated by ripe acids and a minuscule but effective hint of dissolved gas. The interplay between the flesh and the framing of sturdy, suave tannins brings dimension, culminating in a lengthy, mouth-watering finish. This is a fine wine from Laurent. ~92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
