If you want to taste the greatness and the beauty of the narrowest country in the world, Concha y Toro Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon Puente Alto is the one!
It all started in 1883, when Don Melchor de Concha y Toro planted vines in Maipo Valley, in Pirque, just right at the foot of the Andes Mountains. Don Melchor had a dream of creating some of the best Chilean wines, and he succeeded. Concha y Toro is not only recognized worldwide for its high-quality wines, but also as the largest wine producer in all Latin America and one of the main producers worldwide.
The release of the first vintage of Don Melchor in 1987, was a watershed in the quality of Chilean wine. Chilean wine began to resonate worldwide, showing that Chile had great potential to produce high-quality wines. In 1992, just 5 years later, Don Melchor was positioned as one of the best wines in the world according to Wine Spectator. To date, Don Melchor continues to be ranked as one of the best Chilean wines in the world, and with constant ratings of 90+ Points by the world's most acclaimed critics.
Don Melchor's wines are made by the winemaker Enrique Tirado, who works hand in hand with Jacques Boissenot and his son Eric Boissenot. “Don Melchor is for me the constant search for the best expression of each of the vines within the vineyard, in order to achieve in each harvest, the beauty of the balance of the Puente Alto terroir," Enrique says.
The vineyard of more than 300 acres to produce Don Melchor wines, is located in the Alto Maipo Valley. Thanks to its perfect climate conditions, its soils, and the landscape of the beautiful Andes Mountains, (which looks like something taken out of a Disney movie), Alto Maipo is one of the most privileged wine-growing areas in the whole country.

95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 1% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot. Don Melchor 2022 oers intensely expressive aromas dominated by red fruit and oral notes followed by blackcurrants and blackberries. On the palate, it has a smooth entry evolving into mouth-lling avours in a sumptuous wine with tremendous concentration and great energy and breadth. e ne textures and great balance reappear on the long nish, accompanied by very expressive fruity aromas that come to the fore.
Blackcurrants, cassis and graphite on the nose. Pure and fragrant. Full-bodied with superb density and tannins that are so polished. The texture is like touching a silk ball. Its finish is very long and compact with slightly chewy tannins, but it will come together beautifully with time in the bottle. Try after 2028. ~99 James Suckling
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Don Melchor originates from a vineyard planted in the heart of the Puente Alto region in 1979. This is renowned Cabernet Sauvignon terroir, characterized by the perfect balance of temperatures and poor gravel soils. The 2022 was aged in French oak barrels, with 78% of them being new. Garnet-hued with a purplish sheen, it offers complex aromas of currant, blackberry, ash, mint and a subtle floral tone that can be attributed to the cold vintage. Dry, rich and moderately juicy, the precisely calibrated tannins of Maipo Valley and the clear fruit impart the palate with intensity and agility. This is a more nuanced and energetic edition of Don Melchor, closing with a fairly compact finish. ~97 Vinous Media

A very tight and closed nose at the moment, cassis with a hint of pyrazine, liquorice, and baked earth. The palate is rich and textured with great energy and depth - the oak is so well judged with dense and fine-grained tannins that coat the palate and refresh the wine. This is really attractive and manages to balance intensity and richness while always remaining refreshing. A wonderful Don Melchor, I suspect this will drink well soon and age extremely well. ~96Alistair Cooper MW by Catad'Or Wine Guide
Elegant, nuanced and concentrated, with a loamy-clay cast to the fresh thyme and subtle tuberose aromas, which give way to a rich yet balanced core of blackberry and cassis notes lifted by saline-edged acidity. Wonderfully fresh while moving toward the finish, where the flavors come together and linger harmoniously around well-formed tannins.Drink now through 2040. 17,800 cases made, 3,500 cases imported. ~95 Wine Spectator
