SHOP COLLECTION NOW ⮥ Since 2009, Bighammerwines.com has offered a deal of the day wine. We make volume deals directly with winery suppliers around the world and pass the discount onto wine lovers just like you. It’s a simple model, bypassing the middlemen. As a result, this year was our most successful year ever. Some of our best selling wines of 2024 may have already sold out, but whenever possible, we’ll go back to a winery to secure some of the subsequent vintage. Given that we offer 90+ rated wines at a significant discount from high quality, artisanal, family wineries, these wines do sell out. These are the wines your fellow wine enthusiasts liked the most, so if you haven’t tried them yet, here’s your chance.
This wine was a runaway bestseller for BHW in 2024. The winery sells grapes to Silver Oak and Jesse Katz is their 100pt winemaker. We believe Alexander Valley is the place to look for outstanding quality wines at a fraction of the price of Napa. Apparently, many of you agreed. We blew through 3 vintages of multiple wines from this winery this year. The focus has been on the Ranch House Cab, but we love the Merlot and Cabernet Franc from this winery too.
This is a greatest hit for BHW. Very few of our competitors offer mixed 6pks because they are a pain to pick and pack. But, our customers love the Adventure 6pks as a way to try 6 different 90+ rated wines based on a theme. Whether it’s a grape, a country, or a specific region, the wine curious love to taste wines of the world and share the journey with us. And, apparently top quality Napa Cab at a discounted price is the most preferred of all.
Gray Brookman has had an illustrious career making some icon wines including Joseph Phelps Insignia. His focus has been on the Stagecoach vineyard and his wines are magisterial. We can’t recommend this producer enough and people come back again and again for these wines. Checkout his 100% Stagecoach library vintage wines too.
It’s too early in the year to include the 2019 Brunellos that are arriving, but this high quality and value Barolo from one of our favorite producers in Piemonte has been a homerun. If you love the taste of Italy, tightly wound Nebbiolo tannins and a sleek not having to pay $100+ dollars a bottle, try this.
You can pay $350+ for Shafer Hillside select, or you can buy this for less than a third of that price. Located next to the Stag’s Leap Fay vineyard, this wine is made by Dave Phinney (yes formerly Prisoner Wine Co.). This is a slam dunk icon Cab at a steep discount because BHW bought a majority of the production. Don’t miss it.
The Napa Valley Prop red category has exploded as a way to deliver Napa Cab flavors at a lower price than 100% Cabs. This is our #1 Napa Red Blend of 2024. Located across the street in Calistoga from Ch. Montelena, this wine was a deal at the original $55. It was a fantastic deal at our regular $37 price. But, when you buy a case, the price is $27. That’s just stealing.
This wine is a perennial favorite among Hammerheads. A 50-50 blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet, this is a Supertuscan at an affordable everyday price. For several years running, Luca Maroni has conferred 98 pt score as a result of the incredible quality and value ratio.
Handmade wine from the nephew of Caymus founder, Derek Beitler is a great example of the dirt under the nails winemakers we love to support. This guy literally does everything himself. It’s polar opposite of what they do at Caymus. At nearly 50% of the price of Caymus, this is twice the wine. We love it and so do our clients.
BHW clients have global appreciation for great wine. It’s a testament that our #1 Chardonnay is not from California. Instead, it’s an unoaked Chardonnay from Chablis, the OG of all Chardonnays. At less than $28, it’s such a good wine, one bottle is rarely enough.
Montepulciano is most typically found in Abruzzo, but this wine hails from neighboring Marche. For people who are already familiar with Napa Cab and love the fruit forwardness of blueberries and blackberries and a touch of oak and vanilla, this is our #1 crossover wine. But, this wine with a Napa Valley AVA on the label would easily go for well over $100/btl. If you’re not already diving into Italian wines with BHW Founder and Italian Wine Ambassador, you’re missing out.
BHW experts immediately spotted the value of this wine. Anytime you can score an $85 for under $30, it’s a good day. This wine is a blend of multiple vintages from a winemaker with experience at Cakebread and Cardinale, and we knew it was going to be a slam dunk. Then, Tasting Panel Magazine rated it 96 points and Decanter followed up with a 92 point score. As a result, this wine has been a challenge to keep in stock.
This wine is still destined for cult status, not unlike the Cavus elsewhere on this list. But, 100 pt winemakers are in such demand, sometimes their own personal projects don’t get the time and attention they deserve. That’s where BHW’s two decades of relationships and experience comes in. We made a deal with Julien Fayard (formerly of Lafite Rothschild) for a significant portion of this wine (and several other single vineyard Cabs) that are all worth the $150+ winery price. But, with inflation, the cost of storage, and his numerous other priorities, Julien agreed to our volume deal and we are elated to share these wines with the Hammerhead faithful.
This was another Proprietary Napa Valley Red wine that we couldn’t keep in stock. 2022 is the third vintage of this wine we’ve sold in 12 months. A healthy dose of oak makes this wine taste like a much more expensive and fancy wine. At 55% off the original price, it’s no wonder people are repeatedly ordering, drinking and reordering this one.
Jason Woodbridge has set the pace for 100pt wines and has achieved cult status in a relatively few years at Hundred Acre. The Fortunate Son line of wines extends his brand and branches out. This wine is a Merlot dominated blend that as Jeb Dunnuck said, “would give a great Pomerol a run for its money with its darker red and black fruits, smoky herbs, and earthy goodness on the nose.”
Amarone means the “big bitter one.” Yet, this wine is full of bright fruit and balance, which is a quality we’re constantly looking for. 99 points from Luca Maroni and on his list of the “Best Italian Wines”, we only have one opportunity to import these wines each year. Arduini wines always sell out.
