2019 Hundred Acre Fortunate Son The Diplomat Red Wine Napa Valley

Jason Woodbridge has set the pace for 100pt wines and has achieved cult status in a relatively few years at Hundred Acre. The Fortunate Son line of wines extends his brand and branches out. This wine is a Merlot dominated blend that as Jeb Dunnuck said, “would give a great Pomerol a run for its money with its darker red and black fruits, smoky herbs, and earthy goodness on the nose.”

2020 Seña Aconcagua Valley Chile

For more than two decades Eduardo Chadwick has traveled the world and blind tasted his top wines against first growth Bordeaux including Mouton, Lafite, Latour, Haut Brion and Ch. Margaux. The results speak for themselves. Time and again, wine experts, top critics, and the best sommeliers have chosen this wine ahead of those much more expensive Bordeaux wines. The wine regularly scores between 96-100 points and sells for a song when compared with its global peers.

2022 Chateau de Vaudieu "Clairette de Gabriel" Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc

CDP Blanc is a category that appeals to those who know and appreciate the Rhone Valley. Typically, they’ve traveled there and know that a wine like this is capable of delivering you back to that time and place in Provence when the world was perfect. If you love white wine, you must get to know some of the better Châteauneuf du Pape blancs. You’ll quickly become a fan.

2012 Yarra Yering Underhill Shiraz Yarra Valley

This winery property dates back to the founding of OZ as a prison colony. This winery has won just about every award available and remarkably with a 150+ year history was awarded winery of the year in 2022 and the female owner as winemaker of the year. If you love bacon, you can find hints of it in this wine. If you want a true experience of a 12 year old earthy and terroir driven shiraz from old vines, this will be your jam.

2015 S.A. Prum Graacher Dompropst Riesling Dry GG Grosse Mosel Germany

I have a personal affection for this wine because I’ve climbed the incredibly steep hill littered with blue-gray slate rocks. I cannot imagine having to pick the grapes on this dangerous hill without harnesses. Prum is a historically important producer making a DRY Riesling from one of the best vineyards for Riesling in the whole world. Get ready for an experience here.

2020 Chateau Montrose St. Estephe

After visiting Ch. Montrose several times, it is one of the most beautiful Chateau in Bordeaux, but there’s also this church-like reverence for the place. I’ve been at the property with 100 or more people during en-primeur and there is a silence, as people quietly sniff, swirl and appreciate the majesty in the glass. Most critics and I agree: this wine is somewhere between 98 points and perfection.

2019 Domaine Harmand Geoffroy Vieilles Vignes Gevrey Chambertin

Sometimes, I put my nose in the glass and immediately know I’m going to love the wine. This was one of those wines. This is a wine that will take you on a ride as it unfurls over the course of an hour or over dinner. 2019 was a “can’t miss” vintage in Burgundy and drinking this wine is like being in the presence of a graceful, elegant lady who smells so captivating, you have to hold yourself back from leering.

2018 Isola e Olena Cepparello

Cepparello is the flagship wine of the estate and is truly a "WOW" wine that must be tasted to truly appreciate it. The estate is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region at the midway point between Siena and Florence. If you want to know what top class Sangiovese is about and why it’s the most successful grape in Italy, you must try this wine.

2019 Aldo Conterno Barolo Bussia

Nebbiolo and Piemonte is to Italy as Pinot Noir and Burgundy is to France. And, many wine lovers only drink these two wines. There is a majesty to the best Barolos and Conterno has been considered to be in the group of finest producers for decades. Bussia is generally agreed upon as one of the best sites for Nebbiolo in the region. Let this wine aerate at least one hour before drinking and prepare some meat sauce pasta, steak, mushrooms (or truffles) and even some taleggio, then thank your lucky heavens.

2016 Planeta 'Didacus' Cabernet Franc Menfi Sicily

Ever since “White Lotus” Sicily has been exploding. The area around Mt. Etna has been rightfully claiming much of the credit. But, the revolution is happening all over the largest island in the Mediterranean and Planeta has been leading the way. On the south western side of the island, about 1.5 hours south of Palermo lies Menfi. When considering the winds from the sea and elevation, this vineyard is cooler than you might imagine. And, you’d never think about Cab Franc from here. And, that’s precisely why I’ve included this wine in this list. If you’re already following BHW and my travels, you know wine is about the Adventure. Travel with us and dive into a wine that will surprise and delight you.

2010 Brookman Cabernet Sauvignon 100% Stagecoach Vineyard Napa Valley

Gray Brookman has had an illustrious career making some icon wines including Joseph Phelps Insignia. His focus has been on the Stagecoach vineyard and his wines are magisterial. We can’t recommend this producer enough and people come back again and again for these wines. This is 100% Stagecoach from the 2010 library vintage.

2020 William Fevre Les Lys Chablis Premier Cru

Since 1959, William Fèvre has been synonymous with excellence in Chablis. This is a 1er Cru from a cool vineyard site that just screams "Classy Chard." If you're already know about these wines, then you know. If you haven't given yourself the opportunity to have a benchmark Chablis, buy this.
