About the Wine
“Sancerre is home to some of France's tangiest, most thirst-quenching white wines, made from Sauvignon Blanc.” ~Wine Spectator.
Sancerre is an appellation located in the eastern part of the Loire Valley. This appellation produces red and rosé, but it’s undoubtedly the white Sancerre the flagship style of the whole region.
We love Sancerre, and so do some of the most celebrated wine critics in the world, like Robert Parker who described Sancerre as "a beacon of purity and precision,” or Wine Enthusiast who said it is "the epitome of elegant white wines.”
Tucked away in the quiet village of Montigny, just a stone’s throw from the castles of the Loire, the Henry Natter estate has been quietly crafting exceptional wines since 1974. This is not just another Sancerre. It’s a wine born from one of the most distinctive terroirs in the region—clay-limestone soils at altitudes of up to 350 metres—giving the wine its unmistakable tension, lift, and mineral elegance.
The 2023 ‘Les Chevaux de Bois’ captures everything we love about great Sancerre: purity of fruit, stony freshness, and an effortless balance that seems to glide across the palate. The name, which translates to “The Wooden Horses,” pays homage to the wildness and beauty of the hills where these vines grow. There’s something noble and untamed here, and it shows in the wine.
Behind every bottle is the Natter family’s quiet commitment to the land. Long before sustainability became fashionable, the Natters were already farming with a conscience—planting hedges and trees to protect biodiversity, avoiding weedkillers, building bee hives, and creating a sanctuary for birds and insects. Their vineyard isn’t just a place of production—it’s a living, breathing ecosystem. And yes, they’re on track to becoming carbon neutral.
This wine is about tradition, place, and patience. It’s a wine for those who appreciate nuance over noise. A Sancerre that speaks softly, but lingers long after the last sip.
Tasting Notes
100% Sauvignon Blanc. Yellow with golden reflections. Intense aromatic expression mixing notes of blackcurrant buds with fine aniseed and floral nuances. Roundness on the attack, a palate marked by a full body and in clear contrast with the fresh finish. Long aromatic persistence.
