About the Wine
Saint-Émilion is one of Bordeaux’s most storied regions, home to ancient vineyards and winemaking traditions that date back centuries. But among the historic châteaux, there are visionaries—winemakers who have redefined what’s possible. Jonathan Maltus is one of them.
Originally from England, Maltus arrived in Bordeaux in the 1990s and quickly made a name for himself with Château Teyssier. He wasn’t interested in following the rulebook—he wanted to push boundaries. His most famous creation, Le Dôme, became a legend of the "garage wine" movement, proving that small-production, high-intensity wines could stand alongside Bordeaux’s elite. But his influence didn’t stop there.
Château Laforge is part of that same pursuit of excellence. Sourced from a small 1.5-hectare vineyard near Monbousquet, just 300 meters from the Dordogne River, the wine benefits from the region’s unique gravel-rich soils. In 2022, these soils played a crucial role in balancing the vintage’s heat, producing a wine that is powerful yet refined, bursting with ripe fruit and spice. It’s a wine that speaks to both the place and the people behind it—crafted with precision, shaped by Saint-Émilion’s history, and carrying the unmistakable signature of a winemaker who refuses to settle for anything less than extraordinary.

Tasting Notes
92% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc. Deep and expressive, this wine opens with layers of dark berries, plum, and black cherry, wrapped in notes of warm spice and a hint of mocha. The gravel-rich soils lend a refined minerality, while the ripe tannins and full-bodied structure create a smooth yet powerful finish. Vibrant and complex, it strikes a balance between richness and elegance, with a lingering depth that invites another sip.
