About The Wine

Borgo Maragliano has been family-owned in Loazzolo, in the Langa Astigiana, since 1850 — five generations of Giovanni Galliano's line farming the steep, chalky hillsides of Alta Langa. In the 1970s, the estate became one of the first in Piemonte to specialize in classic-method sparkling wine. Today, Carlo Galliano — oenology degree from Alba in hand — runs winemaking across 41 hectares, with his wife Silvia and two of their three sons.

Alta Langa is Piemonte's answer to Champagne: high-altitude vineyards, limestone-rich soils, and the kind of tension and minerality that come from elevation and chalk. The appellation was ratified in 2002, but the region's sparkling-wine history runs deeper — these hillsides have been making metodo classico since the late 19th century. Pinot Noir thrives here, delivering the structure and red-fruit intensity that define great rose.

This is a 100% Pinot Noir rose, classic-method, with the fruit and energy that $32 has no right to deliver. Pale pink with delicate mousse. The nose is wild strawberries, redcurrants, white bread, pomegranate seeds, and sugared almond — the kind of aromatic complexity you'd expect from bottles twice the price. On the palate: fresh, smooth, lively acidity, fruity and clean. Low carbonation, alpine freshness, and a finish that keeps going.

Serve it cold — 44–46°F — and drink it now through the next five to ten years. This is the kind of sparkling wine that makes supermarket prosecco taste emotionally vacant.

100% Pinot Noir, Alta Langa DOCG, Traditional Method. The grapes rest on their skins for 5–8 hours at 7–8°C for color, then are soft-pressed, fermented in steel, and aged about eight months in tank before bottling. Around 32 months on the lees follow. Pale pink with a very fine bead. Flowers, strawberry, and raspberry up front; the palate is juicy, savory, and fresh, firm through the middle and soft and fruit-filled on the finish. Serve at 6–8°C (43–46°F) with aged salumi, shellfish, white meats, or foie gras crostini.

THE PRODUCER

Borgo Maragliano

Nestled high in the hills of Loazzolo in Italy’s Langhe region, Borgo Maragliano is a family-owned estate led by the Galliano family, dedicated to crafting expressive sparkling and aromatic wines that honor both tradition and place.

Perched at 450 meters above sea level, the estate’s 25 hectares of vineyards benefit from limestone-rich soils and the gentle Marin breeze, which enhances grape aromatics and preserves freshness. With deep respect for the land, Borgo Maragliano blends centuries-old methods with modern winemaking precision, producing elegant wines—most notably its celebrated Moscato d’Asti—that capture the pure, vibrant spirit of Loazzolo.
