Roma Rosso is one of the most successfully distributed wines in Rome, but it's only recently found its way to BHW. Just one taste of this wine, and you'll immediately be transported to the historical and captivating Italian capital. This is one of the best-value Italian wines we've found recently, and we have the lowest price anywhere!

Poggio Le Volpe dates back to over one century ago when in 1920 the Mergè family started their very small production of wine and olive oil. In 1996, Felice from the third generation materialized the family’s dream, and so Poggio Le Volpe was born.

The winery is located in Porzio Catone, in the region of Lazio, just over 12 miles from Rome. The land is very fertile, made up of volcanic soils that are rich in minerals like potassium, sulfur, and magnesium, lava rocks, tuff, and sand. The vineyard is planted with traditional grapes like Malvasia del Lazio, Malvasia di Candia, Trebbiano, and Montepulciano.

Felice Mergè is the proud owner and winemaker; he also owns the very recognized Puglian winery, Masca del Tacco. Thanks to the impressive quality, both estates have quickly become Italian wine critic Luca Maroni's darlings.

Felice perfectly combines traditional winemaking with modern state-of-the-art technology, with a simple yet powerful goal in mind: “honor the tradition, identity, and terroir, delivering outstanding wines made with passion, commitment, and experience.”

Roma Rosso is an ode to this beautiful city and “its historical greatness,"this wine is "a celebration of the richness of the land." It is made from a careful selection of Montepulciano, Cesanese, and Syrah grapes, which results in a bright and fresh, easy-to-drink Rosso. History in a glass.

Tasting NotesMontepulciano, Syrah, Cesanese. Deep bright ruby red. Intense on the nose with notes of ripe red fruits, cherries in alcohol, red flower, and everything enclosed in a very pleasant balsamic note. Very smooth in the mouth, pleasantly tannic, well balanced, elegant, and very long in persistence.
