About the Wine

Everyone loves a winner and no Napa Estate can claim the title of Champion of the famous 1976 tasting, "The Judgement of Paris” other than Stag’s Leap. On that historic day which changed the course of Napa wines, vaulting them to the upper echelons of the world's best, Napa became a force to be reckoned with. Stag's Leap Cabernet from the famous "SLV" vineyard bested some of the world's most sought-after wines, Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, and Chateau Haut-Brion just to name a few. This singular event rocked the wine world and four decades later Stag's Leap continues to produce impressive award-winning wines, that are some of the best in the world.

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars' original claim to fame was winning the Judgement of Paris in 1976. Standing up to and overcoming the first growths of Bordeaux helped not only establish this winery as a top producer but Napa as a whole. Today, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars has moved in the direction of sustainability, the use of cover crops, soil amendments, and water conservation techniques, the winery is officially deemed "Napa Green".

Aging: 15 months; 42 % new French oak, 6% new American oak.

Tasting Notes99.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and .5% Cabernet Franc. Delivers expressive aromas of mocha, chocolate-covered cherry, crushed raspberry, olive, and thyme. Rich and flavorful, the wine is well-structured with fine-grained tannins. The palate has a pleasing brambleberry note that leads to a long finish with a hint of oak spice.

Reviews

Cassis, dried blueberries, violets, ink, graphite, dried leaves, and cigar box on the nose. Full-bodied with firm, polished tannins. Smooth and supple with excellent balance and length. ~93 James Suckling

Aromas of cassis, cigar box, and cocoa. Concentrated palate, with chocolate-covered cherry fruit flavours and fine-grained tannins. Lovely acidity. ~91 Decanter

A terrific, well-priced Napa Cabernet, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis has a great nose of pure cassis fruits as well as tobacco, spring flowers, and a touch of wet stone and graphite. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a good sense of elegance and ripe tannins. Drink bottles over the coming 10-15 years. ~91 Jeb Dunnuck

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis is a blend of 99.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and .5% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it springs forth with notes of black raspberries, redcurrant jelly, and fresh blackberries, plus hints of dried mint, damp soil, and crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate gives up tons of juicy black and red berry flavors with great freshness and sturdy, grainy tannins, finishing earthy.~90 Robert Parker
