Sardinia is unique. This amazing Italian island, located in the Mediterranean Sea, is home to some of the rarest wines in the country. Wine Spectator said that this island “has everything it needs to produce great wines.” And that it “offers a chance to dive into a little-known wine region that's really starting to shine.” 

This islandhas some of the Mediterranean's most ancient winemaking histories. Winemaking is in the blood of the Sardinian people. We aren’t joking around - winemaking dates to 1200 B.C. on this island, making it a floating artifact of wine history. Sardinia produces outstanding red wine grapes that keep all wine lovers on their toes with their mysterious origins and delicious character.

Sella & Mosca was founded by Mr.Sella and Mr. Mosca when they arrived in this region and immediately fell in love. Today, this winery is one of the most renowned and biggest estates on the whole island.

Sella e Mosca’s huge 1,600-acre vineyards -the second largest estate on the island, and one of the largest in Europe,- are located in some of the top appellations on the island, and they’re planted with local grapes like Vermentino, Torbato, and Cannonau, and international grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon.

On the paradisiacal island of Sardinia, you will find Cannonau di Sardegna, an impressive appellation that stands out thanks to the production of Grenache (Cannonau is the local name of this grape). The wines from this region have given much to talk about in recent years thanks to their impressive aging ability.Cannonau stands as the crown jewel of Sardinia, and arguably, the entire Mediterranean.

Sella & Mosca goes above and beyond, nurturing this gem in the sun-kissed, sandy coastal vineyards, as well as the rugged, rocky hillsides inland. This wine is an ode to Cannonau di Sardegna.

Aging: 12 months in second-use French barrels. 

Tasting Notes: 100%  Cannonau.

The ruby red color with garnet hues, translucent and brilliant, announces bright, mature and refined aromas. The fresh scent of violet is perfectly integrated by notes of jam, plums, blackcurrants and oriental spices. The palate is solid, wellstructured and warm in its embrace, but always well-balanced, thanks also to fresh bursts of balsam and medicinal herbs and berries. The aftertaste presents toasted hints before returning to the spice route.

This is really delicious with berries, cherries, crushed stones, slate and dried rosemary. Subtle and flavorful at the same time. Medium tannins that are polished and pretty. Spices at the end. Drink or hold. ~93 James Suckling.
