Nestled in the heart of Burgundy, this family-owned estate has a rich history that spans generations, and their 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvee Pere Galland is a true testament to their passion and commitment to excellence.

Born in the vibrant city of Paris to parents with a military tradition, Jean-Michel Guillon took a different path. After his service in the Polynesian Islands, he embarked on a remarkable journey into the world of wine. In 1980, he began his wine venture with just over 5 acres of land. Importantly, he apprenticed with the one and only Henri Jayer. Over four decades, he transformed this humble beginning into a sprawling estate that now encompasses 37 acres spread across more than 20 appellations. It's a story of dedication, love for the land, and the pursuit of perfection.

As the years rolled by, Jean-Michel Guillon's son, Alexis, showed a deep passion for the vineyard. He eagerly joined his father in their shared pursuit of winemaking excellence. After gaining valuable experience in some of France's most prestigious wine regions, including Chambolle Musigny, Beaujolais, and Pic Saint Loup, Alexis became the driving force behind the family estate. Today, he stands as the reference person within the Domaine, a true connoisseur, and a wise advisor carrying forward the family's proud tradition.

The Guillon family understands the importance of preserving the environment for future generations of winemakers. In the face of the climate crisis and the depletion of natural resources, they have taken significant steps to reduce their carbon footprint. Their commitment to using environmentally friendly phytosanitary products has earned them the prestigious HVE (High Environmental Value) level 3 certificate in 2015.

100% Pinot Noir. Indulge in the captivating allure of this Gevrey-Chambertin, a lively embodiment of small Pinot de Bourgogne. It enchants the senses with an abundance of black fruit aromas that gracefully persist, while a delicate hint of tannin caresses the palate in the final act. Pair it with a hearty rack of lamb or a sumptuous sea bream prepared a la royale, and elevate your meal with a symphony of harmonious flavors.

Jean-Michel Guillon described 2019 as 'one that was hot and very dry yet somehow managed to give us wines of freshness and minerality that preserve underlying terroir distinctions. We picked from the 19th to the 27th of September and the good news is that the fruit could not have been any cleaner. The bad news is that the yields were down about 40% compared to a normal vintage. What is interesting is that while both 2018 and 2018 were very warm vintages, 2019 is more homogenous and has better pHs as well. Stylistically, the 2019s remind me of the 2016s with perhaps just a bit more stuffing.' As the scores and commentaries confirm, I was impressed with the quality.
