About the Wine
This Zinfandel comes from a place that’s been doing it right for over a century.
The 2019 Armida Winery Zinfandel is grown on Maple Vineyards, a certified sustainable, dry-farmed plot in the heart of Dry Creek Valley. The vineyard itself is a bit of a local legend—head-trained old vines (some dating back to 1910), rooted deep in the benchland soils, producing small, concentrated fruit year after year. The farming is still done the old-school way, by hand, by people who’ve worked this land for decades.
In the glass, it’s exactly what you’d hope for from a well-made Dry Creek Zin—juicy, balanced, and easy to enjoy. There’s rich black cherry and brambly raspberry up front, a touch of spice, and a soft earthiness underneath that keeps things grounded. It’s generous but not over the top—perfect for a casual dinner or an easy Sunday afternoon.
This wine comes from the team behind Overshine—founded by David Drummond, who has a deep connection to California. Raised in Monterey, David has always had a love for the state’s diverse landscapes, cultures, and wines. His journey led him to Sonoma, where he teamed up with Sam Bilbro, a fourth-generation Sonoma winemaker with family roots stretching back over a century in the area. Sam’s philosophy is simple: healthy soils, diverse vineyards, and wines that connect people. Together, they launched Overshine to create wines that reflect their passion for both quality and community, with a clear focus on sustainability and authenticity
2019 was a great vintage for Sonoma Zinfandel. Wine Spectator blessed this vintage with a 95pt review and said it was "supple, juicy, fruit-filled wines."
Tasting Notes
Medium to full bodied, with structure and texture to match many dishes. Dark black fruits are balanced with savory spices. The seductive finish isn't cloying and sweet, but rather refined, lush and succulent, and the integrated tannins and great balance of savory and spice will continue to gain in complexity over the next fifteen years.
Critical Reviews
Expansive floral and cedary aromas lead to rich, layered flavors in this complex blend of black fruits, oak spices and rose petals. It's fairly big in structure but smooth, as moderate tannins and a full body are well matched. ~91 Wine Enthusiast
Brooding and deeply flavored, with potent currant, bitter mocha and licorice flavors that build tension toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2030. 1,200 cases made. ~91 Wine Spectator
