About the Wine

“I find winemaking truly fascinating because, at its highest level, it requires a combination of technical and scientific expertise plus a level of artistic interpretation and instinct. It is humbling that, no matter how much you do, or how much you invest, you can only ever really control 50% of the variables that impact you.” ~ Bart Araujo, owner and winemaker of Accendo Cellars.

Accendo Cellars is an iconic winery located in Napa Valley. Owners, Bart and Daphne Araujo founded Accendo Cellars in 2013, and since then their goal has been to “produce and promote classically styled wines that express their terroir with balance, purity, and nobility; revisit the iconic Napa Valley Cabernets of the 1950s – 1970s, sourced from multiple vineyards and showing perfectly 50 – 70 years later.”

The mastermind behind these wines is Françoise Peschon, a passionate winemaker that started working with the Araujo family in 1993 in Eisele Vineyard, (the family’s former estate). She graduated from UC Davis and started working in no other than Chateau Haut Brion. Her long experience in wine includes top estates in California like Stag’s Leap, Viader Vineyards, and Vine Hill Ranch. In 2019, she was named The San Francisco Chronicle’s “Winemaker of the Year”.

Michel Rolland is Françoise’s mentor and Accendo Cellar’s consultant for over 20 years. His deep understanding of winegrowing and winemaking has contributed to the acclaim of Araujo Estate Wines and now Accendo Cellars. Since its inception, the winery has won several accolades and 95+ scores. The previous vintage of this Cabernet was awarded a 100pt review by Vinous Media.

Aging: 21 months in new and used French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot.

A textural, intellectual wine, so beautifully built, quietly confident, distinguished, and subtle, with a precise, classic structure. It’s like a ballerina: graceful, elegant, and refined, but with immense power and strength.

Reviews

Sourced from six different Napa Valley vineyards and a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon from Accendo is a dark, cassis-laden effort tinged with violets and black tea. Full-bodied, rich, velvety and tannic, it shows lovely harmony and structure, ample but not overdone concentration, and tremendous length and elegance. ~98+ Robert Parker

Accendo's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is every bit as alluring as it was from the barrel. Plush and sensual, with no hard edges, 2019 possesses magnificent balance from start to finish. Dark-fleshed fruit, spice, leather, tobacco, and menthol build as this sumptuous, racy Cabernet shows off its tremendous charm. Best of all, the 2019 offers quite a bit of immediacy. I would drink it ahead of some of the more structured recent vintages. As always, the Accendo Cabernet is a blend of several top sites in Napa Valley. ~98 Vinous Media

Tasted with Bart Araujo at Wheeler Farms, the 'Rolls Royce of custom crush facilities', as described by Accendo winemaker Nigel Kinsman. Bart and wife Daphne established Wheeler Farms after selling their Araujo Estate (now Eisele Vineyard) to the Artemis Group. Grapes are sourced from Vine Hill Ranch, Sleeping Lady in Rutherford, Eco Tone (a former Abreu property), and a site on Diamond Mountain formerly known as Reverie. Generous blackberry fruit aromas are tinged with wild herbs and heady cedar spices. Broad and expansive on the palate with saturated dark fruit, cassis, graphite, and wild herbs. Rustic, elongated tannins glide to a savory finish. ~98 Decanter
