About the Wine

Meadowcroft is one of Sonoma's hidden treasures. These vineyard-specific, limited-release wines exhibit a Sonoma backbone with European exuberance. Heralded by Bonfort's Wine & Spirits Journal as a top 100 Winery in 2019, this family-owned estate continues its stride toward one of the world's best.

The 2018 Meadowcroft Speedy Creek Zinfandel Knights Valley Sonoma is jam-packed with dark fruits and baking spices. This freshly bottled beauty can be enjoyed in its youth or delight the patient few willing to put their temptations to the wayside. The ultra-premium fruit source to construct this masterpiece is ready to dance across your palate even after the last sip. Are you ready?

With over thirty-five years of experience in viticulture and winemaking, Tom Meadowcroft knows dirt. Or better yet, soil. He can easily judge what makes a vineyard great. He enjoys discovering farmers with small vineyards throughout California that are producing amazing grapes and interesting varieties. He’s quick to identify these little-known gems and produce extraordinary small production wines. Meadowcroft wines are his story. Tom works alongside winemaker, Petar Kirilov, to create wines with a Sonoma pulse that express the complexity found in European varietals. Tom prefers wines that are balanced, highly expressive of the fruit and place where they come from, and not overly extracted or oaky.

This Zinfandel comes from Speedy Creek, a special vineyard that is nestled between the mountains above the Knights Valley. This region is a paradise known for producing outstanding Zins.

On top of that, 2018 was a great vintage for Sonoma County. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate blessed this year with a 95-point review. And Wine Spectator tells that it was a "nearly ideal growing season, with generally rich and structured wines that are also consumer-friendly."

Tasting notes: 100% Zinfandel. On the nose, candied blueberries and nutmeg are framed by clarified butter and shortbread. On the palate, ripe blackberries are followed by secondary flavors of wild mint, fennel, chicory, and tangy dried cherry with a hint of black pepper on the back palate. Pair this wine with bold-flavored dishes like Korean short ribs, brisket, or grilled vegetables.
