Ladies and gentlemen, raise your flutes for a sparkling tale of brilliance and craftsmanship—the 2018 King Estate Brut Cuvée Willamette Valley. This isn’t just a sparkling wine; it’s a testament to the rugged beauty of Oregon’s Willamette Valley and the visionary legacy of King Estate Winery.

Crafted from 100% estate-grown, certified Biodynamic grapes, this Brut Cuvée represents the pinnacle of sustainability and elegance. The first harvest from their pristine vineyards yields fruit picked early, at peak acidity and low sugar content—a sparkling wine maestro’s dream. “Brut” signifies its dry, crisp nature, while “Cuvée” honors the artistry behind this premium blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, pressed from only the finest juice.

King Estate’s terroir, a cool-climate haven kissed by misty mornings and gentle Willamette Valley breezes, offers an environment akin to Champagne, perfectly suited for sparkling wine. Using the méthode champenoise, the base wines are fermented to dryness in stainless steel, then undergo a second fermentation en tirage in the bottle. Patiently aged sur lie for 36 months, this process imparts rich, complex flavors and a luxurious mousse.

The result? A sparkling wine that dazzles with elegance and depth. Bright acidity harmonizes with layers of citrus, green apple, and hints of brioche, finishing with a graceful effervescence that lingers like a perfect memory.

Since 1991, King Estate has set the standard for excellence and innovation in the Pacific Northwest. Founded by Ed King Jr. and Ed King III, this family winery transformed a rugged cattle ranch into North America’s largest certified Biodynamic vineyard—a feat of both vision and determination. Their legacy shines brilliantly in every sip of this remarkable Brut Cuvée.

60% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay. The wine showcases notes of pear, baked apple, white peach, brioche, floral blossom, damp slate and Meyer lemon. Fine and persistent bubbles offer a pleasant, delicate mousse with bright acidity lifting the fruit on the palate. The wine is full bodied with an elegant structure. Lingering acidity brings the wine to a complex finish.

A vintage cuvée from 2018; a warm, dry vintage in the Willamette Valley. This blend from 100% estate fruit shows an aromatic depth with notes of honeysuckle, buttered biscuit and ripe pear. Persistent bubbles deliver a palate loaded with rich flavours of cardamom, beeswax, brioche and candied orange peel. The finish delivers great lift and longevity. ~93 Decanter

Pinot Noir makes up 60% of this wine, with the rest Chardonnay, the grapes all coming from estate sites. The aromas immediately command attention, with notes of pear, brioche and ginger spice. A palate is flavorful, with a lighter-styled mousse. Lemony acidity ties it all together exquisitely. ~91 Wine Enthusiast

Produced in the Traditional Method (Methode Champenoise) from 60% Pinot Noir and the rest Chardonnay, the 2018 Brut Cuvee pours a medium straw color and is aromatic of ripe peach, toasted almond, orange rind, and bread dough. Ripe and medium to full-bodied, it has a fluffy mousse and a soft texture, with a savory profile and a clean finish. It’s holding up nicely, although I would prefer to drink this over the next 5-6 years. ~90 Jeb Dunnuck
