There’s a reason the 2018 Hestan Vineyards Meyer Estate Cabernet Sauvignon has the wine world buzzing—and it’s not just because it’s got an impressive lineage. This wine was crafted by Thomas Rivers Brown, one of Napa Valley’s most acclaimed winemakers, whose meticulous approach has earned him multiple 100-point scores from Robert Parker and a legion of wine lovers.
Already a star in its own right, the 2018 vintage of Meyer Estate Cabernet Sauvignon has been hailed for its balance, complexity, and depth. In fact, its predecessor, the 2015 Meyer Cabernet, was ranked as #8 wine in the world by Wine Spectator—and with the 2018 on the shelves, it’s safe to say the next vintage is set to follow suit. This Cabernet offers a rich tapestry of dark fruit, velvety tannins, and a hint of oak, making it a standout in any collection.
The vineyard itself is a marvel. Nestled on the remote eastern slopes of Napa Valley, Hestan Vineyards boasts 110 acres of low-yielding Bordeaux varieties. The region’s well-drained soils and unique microclimate, which enjoys a 30-degree diurnal temperature shift, make it an ideal home for this bold, elegant wine. The Chengs—Stanley and Helen—have sustainably farmed this land since they purchased the property in 1996, ensuring that every bottle carries not just a sense of place, but a sense of purpose.
Now, how does a Cabernet like this come to be? Well, Stanley Cheng—yes, the same visionary who brought you Hestan cookware, beloved by chefs worldwide—decided to add another chapter to his story. Having already transformed the cookware industry, Cheng’s passion for quality didn’t stop in the kitchen. In 1997, he and his wife, Helen, founded Hestan Vineyards to craft wines that would reflect their commitment to excellence. And that’s where the magic happens—Thomas Rivers Brown, the mastermind behind many of Napa's most coveted wines, has been making these bottles since 2009. Every drop of Meyer Estate Cabernet comes from the same winery as the top-tier Hestan label, ensuring the highest quality across the board.
For those who may not know, the Hestan cookware isn’t just any cookware—it’s the gear that Thomas Keller, the chef behind the legendary French Laundry, trusts for his Michelin-starred kitchens. The Insignia collection designed in collaboration with Keller himself.
2018 was a Napa winemaker's dream, a vintage Decanter says “belongs in an echelon with the finest of the past two decades,” and Wine Spectator blessed this year with 99 points and said it was a "Spectacular year, with wines that are rich and dark, but detailed, restrained in style and very terroir-driven."
When you pop open a bottle of 2018 Hestan Meyer Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, you’re not just tasting world-class Napa Valley fruit. You’re drinking the fruits of decades of innovation, craftsmanship, and a legacy built on quality in both the kitchen and the vineyard. Whether you’re pairing it with a home-cooked meal or just savoring it solo, this wine is bound to impress.
Aging: 20 months in French oak barrels
Tasting Notes
100% Cabernet Sauvignon. In the glass, the wine displays a nearly opaque purple-ruby hue. On the nose, aromas of black currant, blackberry cassis anise, and sweet and sour plum with a hint of black and red licorice. The palate opens with ripe plum, graham, and brown sugar with blackberries and white pepper notes. The wine is balanced with soft tannins and a med long finish. Age for 5-7 years.
Critical Reviews
Potently ripe and saturated in flavor, this full-bodied and nicely grippy wine offers black cherries, dark chocolate and mint on an almost syrupy-rich texture. Firm tannins support the richness for a plush expression overall. Best from 2026. ~92 Wine Enthusiast
Ripe and dense, with a loamy edge to the mix of warmed cassis and blackberry preserve flavors, while singed alder and tobacco accents fill in the background and keep the finish grounded. Best from 2023 through 2034. 4,300 cases made. ~92 Wine Spectator
This wine offers a basket of fresh berries, together with vanilla, chocolate and crushed stones. Full-bodied with chewy tannins and ripe, juicy fruit on the palate. Soft and mellow with a delicious, fruity finish. Drink or hold. ~92 James Suckling
