When we talk about Fronsac, we talk about beautiful, picturesque landscapes and excellent wines. Located on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, this region has been home to great wines at an exceptional value. In fact, if you want to taste the true power of a Bordeaux wine, that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, these wines are for you!
This beautiful family history began when Ernest Roux acquired this Château in the 1950s. Years later, it was taken over by his daughter Françoise Roux and now the property is managed by Arnaud Roux-Oulié.
The name of the Château De Carlmagnus is a tribute to the emperor Charlemagne who established a camp and built a fortress in the Fronsac region.
Arnaud Roux-Oulié grew up among wines and vineyards, learning and absorbing valuable advice from his grandfather and mother; when he took over this magnificent Château, we can assure that he had wine in his blood!
In addition to being a winemaker, Arnaud has another passion, Art. Arnaud has managed to connect his art with the wine in an exquisite way (just take a look at some of the wine labels!), drawing inspiration from each of his works to his wines. Arnaud has done an excellent job with the Chateau De Carlmagnus and as of 2011, he acquired a second estate called Francs-Magnus from which he has already released some excellent vintages.
Known as the "Tuscany of Bordeaux" for it undulating hills, Fronsac has managed to position itself in the world of wine thanks to its excellent terroir and beautiful landscapes. The enviable climatic conditions and terroir of Chateau De Carlmagnus are no exception. The combination of the nearly 100-acre vineyard with 25-year-old vines, the climate conditions, the good hours of sunshine, the clay-calcareous soils, and limestone plateaus is the result of a vine paradise, especially for Merlot, which makes up 90% of the entire vineyard. And to finish off with a flourish, rockstar Stephane Derenoncourt is the wine consultant.
"Our goal is not only to produce a great wine but also to make you discover the beauty and richness of our terroir." Arnaud Roux Oulié
In addition to enviable wines, Château De Carlmagnus has a tourist offer worth visiting.Chateau Lagüe is a castle from 1870, a construct of the time that will take you back to living like the Dukes. Imagine being able to taste their wines with some good French cheeses and those impressive views!
2018 Chateau De Carlmagnus Fronsac is one of the most acclaimed wines of the entire Château. The first vintage was released in 1998.
90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Dark purple color, slightly garnet on the rim. Aromas of cooked black fruits and berries. On the palate, a generous, meaty, and smooth attack in the mouth. The excellent fruity aftertaste and a fairly long finish. Pair this wine with a nice roast beef!
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Carlmagnus gives pronounced notes of plum preserves, baked blueberries, and mulberries with touches of mocha, licorice, and tar. Full-bodied and jam-packed with opulent, expressive black and blue fruit, it has a firm, velvety frame and fantastic freshness, finishing long and layered ~ 94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
