About the Wine

Nestled among the picturesque rolling hills of Tuscan wine country in Greve, Chianti, lies the heart and soul of Viticcio, a winery that has been crafting exceptional wines since 1964. Between the artistry of Florence and the charm of Siena, this magical terroir has given birth to the extraordinary 2016 Viticcio Monile Toscana IGT.

Viticcio comprises almost 300 acres of estate-owned land in Chianti Classico and Maremma. Viticcio's journey began with the desire to capture the essence of Chianti Classico, and today, this dream has evolved into a renowned legacy producing authentic and high-quality wines.

The team at Viticcio carries a love for the terroir that's deeply rooted. With extensive experience, they nurture the vines and employ a delicate balance between ancient winemaking techniques and modern technology. The result? The perfect combination to produce outstanding wines.

Viticcio's commitment to the environment runs deep. From organic techniques that nourish the vineyards to biodynamic methods that care for eight hectares of land, the winery believes in leaving a fertile legacy for generations to come. Since 2013, their entire production has been certified organic.

This Super Tuscan undoubtedly has an international appeal with its full body, soft and silky tannins, and rich flavor. Elegant, fruity aromas mingle with warm spices, and the structured, refined palate leaves the mouth with a fresh and fruity finish. Both the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are selected from old estate vineyards.

2016 was a stellar year in Tuscany. Vinous Media blessed this vintage with a 98-point review and said "Near-perfect conditions resulted in a relaxed, drawn-out harvest. The wines are simply extraordinary, 2016 is a consistently brilliant vintage across the board."

Aging: Barriques for 18 months and large Slavonian oak barrels for a further 12 months.

Tasting Notes: 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot. Concentrated ruby red in color with violet reflections. On the nose, it is highly elegant and very fruity, particularly with mature red fruits that blend with sweet spices, coffee, and licorice and a subtle vegetal background with balsamic notes. It is rich and flavorful in the mouth, with great structure, an elegant texture, and a long finish that leaves fresh, fruity notes. Expect it to age well in the bottle for twelve years or more.

Reviews

A linear, firm red with currant, cherry and light walnut character. It’s medium-to full-bodied with long tannins that draw you down into the wine. Better after 2021. ~93 James Suckling

Plush, juicy nose and palate with a kiss of oak and creamy textures. A pleasant, well-rounded and intelligently made glass. ~92 Decanter
