Bindella otherwise known as Tenuta Vallocaia is an estate winery in the Montepulciano region of Tuscany. It was created by Rudolf ‘Rudi’ Bindella, a Swiss wine importer in 1984. Located in the Argiano Subzone in what they call a "little corner of paradise in Tuscany" with the focus on the wines of Montepulciano. Though not officially certified the vineyards are farmed with green sowing and no use of chemical compounds, herbicides, pesticides, and anti-fungal biotechnologies. The wines are pure and elegant not overdone like some of the other Vino Nobile on the market.
Vallocaia, Camparone, Santa Maria and Fossolupaio fall into the following four production areas of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano respectively: Argiano, Cervognano, Sanguineto and Paterno.
Aging: 20-22 months in large oak barrels.
Red Wine. 85% Sangiovese, 15% Colorino del Valdarno, Canaiolo Nero, and Mammolo. Elegant, with typical hints of iris, rose and red berries together with balsamic notes after several years of ageing in the bottle. Balanced, pleasantly tannic, and well-bodied on the palate. A wine of great authenticity to accompany pasta with elaborate sauces, red meat, truffles and soft or mature cheeses.
Cherry, strawberry, loam, iron, and tobacco aromas and flavors hold court in this lean, sinewy red. A dense matrix of tannins lends support, while the racy acidity drives the length, giving this a mouthwatering impression. Sangiovese and Colorino. Best from 2022 through 2032. 4,900 cases made, 600 cases imported. ~92 Wine Spectator
This shows rosemary with dried strawberries as well as a sage-like character. Medium to full-bodied with depth of fruit that follows through to a clean, dried raspberry finish. Polished tannins. Drink now. ~91 James Suckling
