2015 Sixto Chardonnay Frenchman Hills Columbia Valley

Sixto is the sixth label produced by the wildly eccentric Charles Smith. Smith's has produced some extremely successful wine brands - Kung Fu Girl Riesling, Chateau Smith, The Velvet Devil and Boom Boom - just to name a few. After selling the aforementioned to Constellation Brands in 2016, Charles continued his legacy as a fearless innovator, creating the high quality Chardonnay only label, Sixto. Sixto is dedicated to producing Grand Cru level chardonnay at an everyday price, and boy did they hit the nail on the head. This wine is bonkers!

This single vineyard Chardonnay comes from the Frenchman Hills vineyard known for its high elevation and cool climate. Like the Grand Cru vineyards of Burgundy these vines hang low to the ground while benefiting from a near perfect exposure. Often compared to the best wines from the Grand Cru Corton, Sixto delivers wines with great concentration, balance, and complexity. Yellow apple skin, baked pear, brioche, and fresh hazelnuts envelop the nose. The pallet is full - rich & complex - the weight of the wine swim across the palate as the depth and complexity of flavors begin to sink in. Grip and tension on this wine shows its age-ability. The finish is long with a final beat of minerality to top it all off. Stunning! 

The 2015 Chardonnay Frenchman Hills Vineyard is very attractive, wafting from the glass with notes of buttered yellow orchard fruit, honeycomb, subtle spice and struck match. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, glossy and ample, with bright acids, lovely grip and tension and a chalky, flavorful finish. It's a very compelling Washington State Chardonnay. ~93RP
