About the Wine

Wine Spectator said that "If you want to understand what great Italian wine is all about, buy a bottle of Brunello. No wine in Italy matches Tuscany's Brunello di Montalcino when it comes to class and age-ability."

This region enjoys a very respectable reputation, and it's at the top of its game when it comes to elegance, high-quality, top wines, that are meant to cellar for years.Over the past decade, more than any other Italian wine region, it has been experiencing ongoing top vintages that result in amazing wines.

Lazzeretti is the living image of high-quality BrunelloThey're a relative newcomer in Brunello, with production starting in 2001. Marco and Julia are brothers and sisters who personally oversee the production and business. They make around 2,000 cases per year, as well as a small amount of Rosso, Riserva, Grappa, and extra virgin olive oil. Although the distribution of the Lazzeretti label started at the turn of the century, the Lazzeretti family has been producing wine since the 80s. It wasn't until Marco decided to produce wine from their grapes for their own label.

This stunning Brunello Riserva comes from an amazing 97-point vintage. Wine Spectator said it delivered "rich Brunellos, dense with tannins; the best have the acidity to age long term."

Aging: 12 months in french oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: 100% Sangiovese Grosso. This wine is very complex and elegant, fruity, with hints of spices, leather, cocoa. The palate shows a great structure. Its soft and harmonious. Very persistent, with tannins and acidity perfectly balanced.

Reviews

Bohemian and from a different time would describe the primary profile which gives scents of pressed red flowers, dried cherries, chopped almonds, wet geraniums, and nutmeg. In the background, the brightness of lemon juice dominates the secondary scene and augments the perfume. Full-bodied, velvety tannins of excellent workmanship and a juicy and centered finale that ignites the center palate. A Masterpiece to keep in the cellar. Better from 2022. ~97 WinesCritic.com

Restrained nose of wet leaves, raw mushrooms, and wild blackberries. A hint of damp soil. Initially closed on the palate, before cherries and orange slices come through. It's medium-to-full-bodied with firm tannins and a succulent, smoky finish. Drink from 2022. ~93 James Suckling
