About the Wine

A beautiful silky Pinot Noir from the furthest southern Premier Crus in the Cote de Beaune. This wine has a lovely rose-colored hue with wild red flowers, red berries, red plum, and cherry on the nose. The wine is elegant and alive on the palate echoing the wild red flavors from the nose with more red raspberry and sweet cherry and a touch of mushroom, sois bois, beet, and exotic spices in the background. The pedigree of 2015 shows through in the spades and this wine is begging for a lovely roasted Turkey for Thanksgiving! This should develop more nuance, flowers, and levels with 3 more years in the bottle but it already shows great! A sneaky value play in the top-notch 2015 vintage!

In 1914, Joseph Matrot and Marguerite Amoignon transformed Marguerite’s family home, which is today the seat of Domaine Matrot, into one of Burgundy's top Estates! Over the course of generations, Domaine Matrot continued to expand with the addition of new vineyard holdings, and in 2000 began harvesting the vineyards organically. Today, sisters Adèle and Elsa Matrot are in charge of the management and winemaking of the Domaine, ensuring that the family-run Domaine will be in good hands for many years to come. Observing careful cultivation and vinification techniques, Domaine Matrot wines offer purity of fruit and terroir-driven character.

Aging: 15 months maturing on lees in 20% new oak barrels. 3 months in a steel vat before bottling.

Tasting Notes: Red Wine. 100% Pinot Noir. The southernmost appellation of Côte de Beaune. The vines planted on slopes facing South-East, with clay-limestone soil, give a rich red wine, robust and intense. A concentrate of black fruits and spices, warm and elegant tannins will perfectly accompany the grilled red meats and in sauce.

Reviews

Aromatically, this is not dissimilar from the straight villages with two minor differences, which is to say that here the nose is slightly more floral and that the fruit is derived more from the red side of the spectrum. The texture of the middle weight flavors is finer though the mid-palate is somewhat less concentrated while the lingering and slightly firmer finish offers a bit more depth and persistence. ~89 Burghound
