About the Wine

Founded at the end of the 18th century, Château Bellefont-Belcier is ideally located on the south coast of Saint-Emilion, alongside Château Pavie, Château Larcis-Ducasse, and Château Tertre Roteboeuf.

The Château became the property of the Faure family at the end of the 19th century. It was at this time that the vineyard became one of the flagship estates of the Saint Emilion Grand Cru region with numerous awards. Including the only gold medal awarded by the Ministry of Agriculture to Bordeaux wines, during the Competition agricultural general of Paris in 1892. Modern for his time, he designed the famous circular vat on the hillside with its gravity reception. Preserved intact since its construction, it is today one of the jewels of this property. Château Bellefont-Belcier was classified in 2006 as a Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé.

Château Bellefont-Belcier is located in the town of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation area. The vineyard is divided into three distinct zones: the limestone plateau, the clay-limestone south coast, and the clay-sandy foot of the coast. Ideally suited for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. With an average vine age of 35 years.

Wine lovers and wine critics adore Chateau Bellefont-Belcier thanks to its amazing complexity and finesse. This Saint Emilion Grand Cru is an amazing buy, this level of quality at this price is almost impossible to find!

2015 was an epic year for Saint Emilio. Both Vinous Media and Wine Spectator blessed this vintage with a 97-point review. Vinous said "Bordeaux enjoyed its strongest vintage in a number of years in 2015. The 2015s are spectacularly rich, racy wines loaded with personality."

Reviews

Love the nose of blackberries, black truffles, oyster shell and wet earth. Full-bodied, layered and fantastic. Firm and silky tannins and a juicy finish. Gorgeous complexity. Drink in 2020. ~95 James Suckling

Deep dark ruby garnet, opaque core, violet reflections, delicate lightening of the edges, ripe cherry fruit underlaid with fine floral nuances, a hint of heart cherries, seductive bouquet. Juicy, elegant, shows excellent freshness, ripe tannins, good length, promising potential, mineral notes. ~92-94 Falstaff

Powerful, dense and explosive, with notable thrust to the red cherry, plum, leather and licorice flavors, the dramatic, full-throttle 2015 Bellefont-Belcier is every bit as impressive as it was from barrel. Dark red cherry, mocha, new leather and spice build into the racy, voluptuous finish. The tannins need time to soften, but all the elements are in the right place. In a word: terrific. ~93 Vinous

The nose is aromatic, relatively powerful and offers finesse and a certain (small) concentration. It reveals notes of cassis, blackberry and Quetsche plum associated with a slight touch of cassis bud, tobacco, black fruit jam and a hint of oak. The palate is fruity, fresh and offers tension, minerality as well as a nice silky and slightly unctuous matter. On the palate this wine expresses notes of blackberry, Quetsche plum and slight oaky notes. Tannins are fine and elegant. Good length. ~92-93 VertdeVin

This sports an ample core of gushy blackberry and raspberry pâte de fruit flavors, lined with black licorice details and carried by a lively bramble note. A strong apple wood edge emerges on the finish, melding into the fruit. Displays good cut and drive. Best from 2020 through 2030. 5,000 cases made. ~92 Wine Spectator
