It all started in 1996, when the young Turin-born Paolo Monti, just 30-years-old at the time, acquired a historical estate in San Sebastiano, south of Monforte d’Alba.
Today the company manages 18 hectares, planted with traditional grapes, Nebbiolo and Barbera, and also some experiments that have now become part of the Langhe area, such as Riesling Renano, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. A style expressed through ten labels, each with its own personality. Most importantly the Barolos, through the great Cru of Monforte d’Alba, Bussia, makes Monti one of the leading Italian producers for high-quality Barolo!
Bussia is a historical vineyard in the village of Monforte d’Alba and the first Cru of Barolo to be officially labeled, along with Rocche di Castiglione, in 1961. Bussia represents one of the most prestigious vineyards not only of Monforte but of the entire Barolo area.
The Monti winery manages a little less than two hectares of Nebbiolo and a small plot of Barbera in the heart of Bussia Sottana, the vineyards are located at 918-984 feet above sea level.
Aging: 12 months in 50% New French Oak/50% Second use Barrels. The wine is then blended and finish in French oak barrels for 18 months.
Tasting notes: Red Wine. 100% Nebbiolo. Compact color of deep garnet. A noble nose of blackberry, cherry, cinnamon, and spices. Beautiful, lively, large, and elegant mouth. Majestic and pounding tannins, defined freshness, superb depth. Well integrated oak leaves elegance and finesse.
Note: this is a traditional styled wine and it’s 18 years old. Expect to find tertiary aromas of tobacco, extracted tea leaves, dried leather and baked plum. The wine was bottled unfiltered and will have sediment. The wine is dry, not sweet.
