Franciacorta was named Italy’s first sparkling DOCG in 1995. The rapid improvement and growth of the region has been breathless. For those in the know, this is the bubbly wine of Italian kings and queens. Known to royalty since the 13th century, it seems most consumers have only recently learned to appreciate the outstanding fizz from Franciacorta.
Since 1870, Barone Pizzini has captured the area’s long cultural significance to help shape both Franciacorta’s legacy and contemporary character. Silvano Brescianini, the winemaker (and Managing Partner), took over winemaking responsibilities in 1994. For Brescianini, vines and wines here are borne out of a central theme: natural farming and transparency of place. The goal of low intervention results in wines defined less by artifice and more by location. Barone Pizzini allows for the narrative of events during the growing season to be observed rather than act as agents of nature.
Animante is sourced from twenty five vineyards, creating an extraordinary blend of depth, complexity, harmony and elegance. Blending is key here and Silvano is a master.
Blend: 78% Chardonnay, 18% Pinot Nero, 4% Pinot Bianco
Reviews
Enticing scents of smoke, bread crust, citrus and yellow orchard fruit carry over to the vibrant, elegant palate, along with pear, mineral and orange zest. The silky perlage lends finesse while bright acidity lifts the rich flavors. ~93WE, Editor's Choice
