The 2022 Bouchié Chatellier 'Pierre A Fusil' Pouilly-Fumé is an exceptional expression of the Loire Valley's renowned flinty terroir. Born from a family legacy that spans four generations of vine-growing expertise, this wine is a masterpiece that reflects tradition, innovation, and an unwavering passion for quality.

The story behind this remarkable wine begins with the pioneering spirit of the Bouchié family. Situated on the famous Saint Andelain hill, the "La Renardière" estate owes its name to the foxes that once roamed the land. The domaine’s founder, a trailblazer of modern viticulture, cleared the land, implemented new pruning techniques, and won prestigious medals early on. The current domaine emerged from the union of two neighbouring estates, creating a rich lineage of viticultural mastery.

The vineyard, perched atop the hill with panoramic views of the Loire River, enjoys south and west-facing slopes. This perfect exposure, combined with a unique mix of flinty clay and Kimmeridgian marl soils, imparts a remarkable complexity and structure to the wine. The mineral-rich terroir is famous for producing wines with exceptional ageing potential.

In the hands of Bernard Bouchié and his son Arnaud, the estate has maintained its commitment to traditional viticultural methods. From selecting low-yielding, high-quality clones to propagating their own plants since 1930, the Bouchié family has long championed a sustainable and careful approach to winemaking.

The Bouchié family’s experience in viticulture is unparalleled. From their roots in the Beaune vineyards of Burgundy to the esteemed Champagne houses, they have mastered the art of winemaking. Now, their Pouilly-Fumé stands as a testament to generations of knowledge and devotion.

100% Sauvignon Blanc. The 2022 Bouchié Chatellier 'Pierre A Fusil' Pouilly-Fumé opens with vibrant aromas of flint, citrus zest, and white flowers. On the palate, crisp green apple and grapefruit meet a subtle smoky minerality, all balanced by bright acidity. The long, clean finish leaves a refreshing and elegant impression, capturing the essence of its flinty terroir.

This 22ha domaine is situated on the upper slopes of the St-Andelain commune. The vines are on flinty clay - hence the name of this wine, meaning flint - on south- and west-facing slopes. Since 1930 the domaine has been replacing vines with its own stock. The winery is on three levels, allowing the wine to be moved by gravity. This wine was fermented in stainless steel and left on its fine lees until bottling. Jim Budd: Light citric and grapefruit aromas; attractive mouthfilling texture, good balancing acidity and a vibrant, long finish. Still a little tight but will open out. Natalie Earl: Bright, vibrant aromas of green apple, freshly squeezed lemon, lime rind and spring blossom. Great intensity with lingering lime and greengage. Ben Llewelyn: Punchy fermented grass, struck flint, complex aromatics. Mineral coolness, luscious fruit without being cloying. A very accomplished wine for 2022.~96 Decanter
