Château Haut-Batailley -where wine-making mastery meets a commitment to nature's harmony. Château Haut-Batailley is a distinguished Fifth Growth estate, (a mere 10 minutes drive from Château Lafite) that started an exciting new chapter under the famous Cazes family. This family is renowned for their famous Lynch-Bages and Ormes de Pez wines - now taking their third winery to new heights.

Pauillac stands out for its exceptional wines, demonstrated by the fact that it houses three of the five Bordeaux First-Growth wines. The wines of the region carry a trademark of rich, full red wines that have some of the most powerful tannic structures in the Medoc region. This also means their wines age incredibly well.

A great example of the impressive producers of the region is Château Haut-Batailley - who saw a massive transition in 2017 under the guidance of the Cazes family. With 19 hectares of untapped land and a focus on honoring Pauillac's legacy, a massive planting program took place, which changed everything for the winery. This planting program doubled the vineyard's size in just three years, which is almost unheard of. While the size of the vineyards changed dramatically, the focus remained on the key players: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.

But it's not just about vines and grapes;Château Haut-Batailley's commitment to sustainability and biodiversity is like nothing you’ve experienced. In 2022 alone, they planted over 910 trees and shrubs, representing 14 different varieties. With this, they aimed to greatly increase biodiversity and show their commitment to positive change.

2021 is looking to be a good vintage for Bordeaux.Vinous Mediagave it a 92-94 points, and said: " The 2021 Bordeaux have turned out to be such a surprise. The best wines offer a striking combination of old-school classicism with modern-day precision."

Aging: The Wine spent 12 months in oak barrels. 

Château Haut-Batailley is a harmonious, elegant wine with a fine tannic structure and will develop even more complexity and depth over time.

The 2021 Haut-Batailley shows an estate in evolution. Aromatic and medium in body, the 2021 is not quite as bombastic as some previous editions, which is a positive. Open and violet-scented bramble fruits, some smoked cherries and milk chocolate. Smooth and supple, this has generosity of fruit, acidity and velvety tannins. Round and just so delicious, really very moreish, all in balance with the texture that is both fine as well as plump, giving this total mouth-coating feel with a delicacy but also depth of flavour. Extremely approachable even at this stage with so much life and energy but well controlled too. I love this!The creamy, chalky edges are so appealing, it's by no means a showstopper but for balance, harmony and a lovely fresh and soft and gentle Claret it's delicious.That mint, liquorice ending is great too. Juicy and fruity with currants and fresh tobacco aromas and flavors. Some lead pencil. Medium body. Fine tannins and a creamy texture. Lovely finish. ~93 James Suckling

Much more Cabernet Sauvignon-based, the 2021 Château Haut-Batailley is straight and focused, with textbook Pauillac graphite, lead pencil, and tobacco notes as well as beautiful fruit, medium body, ripe yet certainly present tannins, and a great finish. It shows the elegant, seamless style of the vintage and brings enough concentration and structure to benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and shine over the following 15+. ~92 Jeb Dunnuck

Dark ruby core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Aromas of ripe plum fruit, dark wild berries, a hint of red cherries and candied orange zest. Juicy, ripe cherries dominate the palate with delicate black fruit sweetness. Vivid tannins are well integrated with some minerality and delicate nougat and herbaceous notes lift the finish. ~92 Falstaff

Offering up aromas of cassis, minty blackberries, lilac and pencil shavings, the 2021 Haut-Batailley is medium to full-bodied, supple and polished, with a succulent core of fruit and delicately chalky tannins. For many years, significant parts of this property were left unplanted, but as of 2022, all 41 hectares are now under vine; so, there'll be more of this Pauillac—with its new, more modern style—to go around. ~91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Shows damson plum and black cherry fruit laced with a mouthwatering sanguine thread, while touches of fresh humus, dark tobacco and cast iron peek in on the finish. A touch trim, but has good energy and typicity. ~90 Wine Spectator
