About the Wine

La Rioja Alta has been around so long that this estate is a large part of the reason that Rioja is what it is today. This winery is recognized among “The World Most Admire Wine Brands” in 2021 by Drinks International, and these brands are La Rioja Alta, Aster, Torre de Oña, and Lagar d Cervera located in Rias Baixas.

Rías Baixas is a charming little region located in Galicia, northwestern Spain. This region produces the fresh, crisp ultimate white wine made with the Albrariño grape. Wine Spectator says, Albariño delivers fresh wines with an appealing balance of fruity and mineral character. The wines are crisp and clean, with bright acidity. They're usually good values, making a perfect house white to buy by the case for summertime entertaining.”

In 1998, La Rioja Alta discovered a distinctive terroir in the Rosal subzone of Rías Baixas in Galicia. They obtained this parcel and a few others and applied their vast expertise to a very different high-grade raw material than their typical one: Albariño. The resulting wine, Lagar de Cervera, is now considered one of the finest in the area and leads the way in the Rosal subzone of the appellation.

Tasting Notes: 100% Albariño. It is clean and bright, greenish-yellow in color with golden reflections. Aromatically, it stands out for its totally varietal profile and its intensity, highlighting the notes of white fruit -golden apple and very ripe pear- as well as stone fruit, especially apricot, and notes of lemon peel. On the palate, where it's very good structure stands out, it is fresh and lively, powerful and very balanced. It maintains saline memories and a long and persistent finish.
