John Duval is one of Australia's most renowned winemakers and with more than 35 years of experience in the industry, he is an "Australian Wine Legend" as Robert Parker named him in 2010.

The last name Duval has a long history in the world of wine in Australia. For more than 100 years, the family vineyards supplied grapes to the best winemakers in South Australia.

John Duval Wines vineyards date from the second half of the 19th century and are built on more than 30 years of experience in Australian winemaking and more than 5 generations of experts in the field and wine. John Duval was the visionary from the family who transitioned from only selling grapes to making his own wines.

John Duval studied at the University of Adelaide in 1973 and by the 1974 vintage, he began working at the acclaimed Penfolds winery. At Penfolds, John Duval apprenticed to Don Ditter and Max Schubert, creators of Australia's most famous and iconic wine called “Grange”. Duval displayed his winemaking skills and became the third winemaker in 1986.

John played a very important role in the positioning and worldwide recognition of the Penfolds winery.During his more than 29 years at Penfolds, Duval became a world-renowned star winemaker, some of his accolades include being named UK Wine and Spirit Competition's International Winemaker of the Year, Red Winemaker of the Year (twice), and receiving Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year award.

In 2003, John Duval began producing his own wine, the now renowned label called "Plexus" a blend of Shiraz Grenache and Mourvèdre, and the following year he released a second wine label called Entity. Entity is made from Shiraz grapes from the Barossa Valley, with old vines from Stockwell, Light Pass, Krondorf, and sub-regions of Marananga in Barossa Valley.

Aging: 15 months in 35% in new fine grain French oak hogsheads.

100% Shiraz. Intense aromas of dark berries, plum, and boysenberry, hints of anise and clove. Excellent concentration of layered rich dark fruits, hints of dark chocolate, and earth. Firm tannins and long finish. Pair this wine with semi-hard cheeses and red grilled meats.

Ink black core, relaxing only slightly to a deep purple rim. Plums, dark chocolate, and vanilla pods on the nose. Deep, powerful, and brooding on the palate. Dark fruits, black olives, and woody spices all coil around each other, vying for attention, leaning heavily into the savory spectrum. The tannins bring a further sense of power with a firmness that suits, while still retaining a fine powdery texture. A serious food wine. ~95 The Real Review

This polished red shows some restraint to the ripe, dense, velvety core of blueberry, huckleberry, and dark chocolate, with a note of malty Assam black tea. Fresh green dried herbal notes and a hint of black olive linger on the long, expressive finish. Drink now through 2035. 2,400 cases imported. ~94 Wine Spectator
