“The 2019 Sérilhan is a total knockout. A rush of grilled herbs, inky dark fruit, licorice, and menthol notes hit the palate as 2019 makes a strong opening statement. Deep and virile in feel, 2019 has so much to offer. It is without question one of the sleepers of the vintage, in a word: impressive.” ~Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media.
The vineyards of the Chateau Sérilhan lie in the distinguished region of St. Estephe on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, atonly a nine-minute drive from the famous 1st Growth, Chateau Lafite Rothschild, and a couple of miles away from the 3rd Growth, Château Calon Ségur.
Besides having a magnificent terroir in one of the most impressive wine regions in the world, this Château is overseen by one of the most prominent winemakers in the country, the legendary Alain Reynaud. Alain has a long and respected experience in Bordeaux, which includes managing Châteaux like Château Quinault.
The 2019 Chateau Serilhan was awarded one of the “Top 5 Wines of Saint Estephe” in En Primeur 2019, earning a 92-94 score from Vinous Media and 91-93 from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
This outstanding Château has more than 20 years of family tradition in the highly-demanded AOC of Saint Estephe. The current owner, Didier Marcelis, decided to leave the technology business and “go back to his roots,” taking over his grandparents’ winery. He managed to improve every aspect of the winery by investing in state-of-the-art technology and implementing careful and artisanal winemaking methods such as hand-picking in the vineyard, careful grape sorting, vinification by plot, top-quality barrels for aging, and the most detailed attention to the blends. The result is irresistible, lively colored, bright, fruity wines.
2019 was an epic vintage for Saint-Estephe.Wine Enthusiast blessed this year with a 97-point review.
Tasting Notes: 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc. With a deep garnet-purple color. Notes of ripe blackcurrants, boysenberries, black raspberries, and cedar chest, plus nuances of red roses, pencil lead, and camphor. The medium-bodied palate shimmers with energy, featuring tons of crunchy black fruit and a finely grained texture, lifted by fantastic tension, finishing long and perfumed. This wine pairs excellent with roasted, braised, or grilled meats like steak, veal, pork, beef, and game and soft cheese.

A solid core of ripe fruit and spice here. It’s full-bodied, creamy, and chewy. Pretty fruit at the end. ~92-93 James Suckling

First year as Cru Bourgeois Superieur, and what a tough year to take advantage of this new classification. But this clearly shows why it deserves it - grip, freshness, blueberry and raspberry fruits layered up with charcoal and gentle smoke. There is austerity, and quite a serious amount of tannin, although they are flexible and silky in style. Alain Raynaud is new consultant at the estate. ~92 Decanter
Strong ruby garnet, violet reflections, broader ocher edge brightening. Fine black wild berries, a hint of cherries, delicate herbal spices, attractive bouquet. Firm, lively, red cherries, a hint of currants, fine tannins, freshly structured, lemony, and mineral notes on the finish, a lively companion at the table. ~92 Falstaff
