About the Wine

2017 Saracina Vineyards Atrea Old Soul Red Blend Mendocino is flat-out delicious. We recently tasted this bottle of wine, and we can assure you that this is one of the best north coast wines we’ve ever come across. It's a Prisoner style type of wine, but not as sweet, and definitely more elegant. A wine under $23, tastes like a $50+ bottle.

“Mendocino is unique, rugged, and refined. It’s a place that draws passionate people.” ~ Winemaker, Alex MacGregor

Saracina is located in beautiful Mendocino County. The place that Wine Spectator described as somewhere where Life moves at a slower pace and the mindset is more unconventional, some might even say eccentric.”

Saracina is a 400-acre beautiful winery, where you’ll find an amazing and modern winery, 140-year-old olive trees, orchards, bee hives, and a 40-acre vineyard planted with grapes like Chardonnay, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel y Petite Sirah. The vineyard, which is sustainably certified by the CSWA, is located in a blessed terroir, with soils composed of rocky to black clay and gravelly loam, and weather with humid winters and hot summers, the perfect combination for luxurious and unique wines.

Since 2018, the estate has been owned by Marc Taub. Marc comes from a family with a long history in the world of wine. He also works hand in hand with the brilliant winemaker, Alex MacGregor. Alex is a certified sommelier and a graduated winemaker from the University of California. His experience includes working in California in Dry Creek Valley, and internationally in countries like France, Spain, New Zealand, and Australia. Together, they’ve created this work of art.

Tasting Notes: Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignan, Malbec. The nose offers up savory wild herb and blackberry cobbler notes. The palate is rich and dense, with ripe tannins that wrap around a core of blue and black fruits which linger on the long, toasty finish. A brilliant match for carnitas or smoked ribs.

Reviews

Opens with expressive raspberry, sassafras, and tarragon accents that build tension and structure toward broad-shouldered tannins. Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Malbec and Syrah. Best from 2021 through 2026. 950 cases made. ~90 Wine Spectator.
