About the Wine

Elk Cove Vineyards was founded in 1974 by Pat and Joe Campbell. Winemaker Adam Campbell joined forces with his parents in 1995 and Elk Cove remains proudly family-owned. Adam is now responsible for making Elk Cove’s wines. He now oversees six vineyard sites with 380 planted acres. That’s over 10 times the total acreage of all Oregon vineyards when Pat and Joe planted that very first vine in 1974. The Campbell’s goal has always been hand-crafted, Estate-grown cool climate wines that rival the best in the world. As a second-generation winemaker and a 5th generation Oregon farmer, Adam Campbell is proud to continue that tradition.

Goodrich Vineyard was planted in 2007, in the heart of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The property boasts the exact same marine sediment (Willakenzie) soil as the Mount Richmond property and lies just a few miles from their Estate Vineyard in Gaston. This young vineyard has great promise and produces impressive quality fruit perfect for a Single Vineyard Pinot Noir!

Aging: 10 months in 27% new French oak

Tasting notes: Red Wine. 100% Pinot Noir. Pretty nose of violet, sweet orange, and plum pie, this wine is immediately quaffable with appealing velvet tones of cherry and marionberry. A savory, nutty edge leads into dusty cocoa tannins and river rock on the finish.

Reviews

Impressive composure and detail in this rich and ripe pinot that offers up a wealth of very supple and succulent, spicy red and dark cherries, as well as a detailed, well-structured feel to the palate. The depth and poise are impressive. Drink or hold. ~94JS

The 2017 Goodrich Pinot Noir has a medium ruby-purple color with aromas of prosciutto, crushed blackberries, and black cherries plus notes of cinnamon stick, dried leaves, potpourri, and sweet spice. It’s medium-bodied with good intensity, a firm frame, and a long, fresh finish. 700 cases produced. ~92WA
