This is our #1 Burgundy offer in two years! Given the increasing demand for high-quality Pinot Noir globally and subsequent escalating prices, it’s become very challenging to find great value. We did and this is a wine to stock up on before it’s gone.
Château de Santenay is one of Burgundy’s oldest and largest Domains. Its prestigious heritage is the product of a time-old legacy closely tied to the history of the Burgundy. Originally built in the 9th century the Chateau has housed Dukes, Kings, and many royal families while producing world-class Pinot since the 13th century. 235 acres of vineyards in 18 different villages provide a diverse and wind array of Burgundian wines for this storied estate. This old-vine Pinot has all the pieces in place to wow any wine drinker, from the savvy Burgundian connoisseur to those who have yet to experience the magic of old-vine Burgundy. It's time to discover why the sommelier community goes crazy for these wines!
The 2017 Chateau de Santenay Bourgogne Pinot Noir Vieilles Vignes comes from a selection of several vineyards on the Côte Chalonnaise. These vines have been chosen for their south-eastern exposure and optimal vine maturity that produces a variety of complex flavors and aromas.
The rich red clays and limestone soils give the wine great power and depth. Their sustainable and environmentally friendly approach ensures an active biological life of the soils. Leaf stripping and green harvesting allow yields to be controlled and provides the plant the ability to produce high-quality fruit with great concentration.
For the last 20 years, the Domaine has been taking an environmentally-friendly approach to growing, proving itself to be a true pioneer in this respect. It has been TERRA VITIS certified since 2004 and was certified by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2009 for its use of sustainable growing methods. In 2015, it was one of the first wine Domaines to receive ‘High Environmental Value’ (HEV 3) certification respecting a new set of specifications issued by the French Ministry of Agriculture.
Red Wine. 100% Pinot Noir. Ruby red color with beautiful dark garnet reflections. The nose is powerful, with notes of fresh black fruits, dried rose peddles, forest floor, and fresh herbs. The palate is full-bodied, well-balanced, smooth with its very melted tannins. A beautiful harmony for this gourmet wine, full of sap and elegance. A clean and precise wine with an everlasting finish.
